Prep Football Roundup: Sixth-ranked Blackjacks impress in 49-8 win over YME

Sep. 18—DAWSON — Junior Holt Larson had a big game, helping the state-ranked Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks to an impressive victory Friday night at R.B. Clay Field.

Dawson-Boyd, ranked sixth in the state in Class A, beat Yellow Medicine East, 49-8.

Larson led the way. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound fullback rushed 20 times for 189 yards and four touchdowns.

The Blackjacks piled up 332 yards in total offense on 40 plays. Quarterback Brayden Hahn completed 7 of 10 passes for 128 yards and one TD, a 43-yarder to Caleb Torke that helped put Dawson-Boyd up 28-0.

The teams played a scoreless first half. The Blackjacks then scored the next 49 points.

YME's Andrew Flaten found Nahum Tarin for a 21-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter.

Dawson-Boyd heads to Madison to play Lac qui Parle Valley next Friday. YME will also hit the road to take on Canby.

With a 33-0 halftime lead, Lakeview moved to 3-0 with a Southwest West district victory over winless MACCRAY at Maynard.

A strong stop aided New London-Spicer to its victory over Holy Family Catholic at Victoria.

The Wildcats got a 13-0 lead, getting a 37-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Doty to Gabe Rohman and a 30-yard interception return for a score from Gavin Degner.

"We got off to a strong start before letting them come back a little bit there," NLS coach Chad Gustafson said. "But in the second half we were able to get back on track for the win."

NLS will take on No. 2-ranked (Class AAA) Annandale next Friday at New London.

Renville County West saw a 16-0 lead erased by Red Rock Central in the loss at Lamberton.

Mason Strom rushed 32 times for 135 yards and two touchdowns for RRC. His first touchdown came in the third quarter on a fourth-and-goal play at the 2-yard line.

RRC then scored the game-winner with 7:16 left. Nick Marsh caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Isaac Simonson on another fourth-and-goal play.

RCW had the ball in the red zone in the third quarter. But the drive ended with a fumble. Late in the fourth quarter, the Jaguars got to the RRC 30. But a holding penalty hindered the drive and RRC turned the ball over on downs.

RCW is back in Danube for homecoming next Friday to face Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart.

Thomas Dineen rushed for five more touchdowns after rushing for five last week in Benson's victory over Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa at Brock Field in Benson.

Dineen carried the ball 29 times for 268 yards. He had 20 carries for 232 yards at halftime and did not play in the fourth quarter for the Braves, who rushed 46 times for 327 yards.

For BBE, Tanner Shelton threw touchdown passes to Jamison Reed and Easton Hagen. The Jaguars also got a blocked PAT from Carson Gilbert.
