Portsmouth, Lincoln, Cranston West baseball, Johnston, La Salle, Mount softball all win

BASEBALL

Division I

Portsmouth 12, Central 9

With the score tied at 9-9, Caleb Banks singled in a pair of runs during a six-run sixth inning, lifting the Patriots to victory in a see-saw battle. John Mass and Oliver Rey each drove in three runs and Matt Nolan had a pair of RBI for Portsmouth, which trailed, 7-2, after three innings. Maikel Soriano knocked in two runs for the Knights and Derek De La Cruz, who had three hits, drove in one. Cam Ruggieri, who got the win, pitched 3 1/3 innings of shutout ball for the Patriots.

Lincoln 5, Coventry 4

Jayden Champagne went 3-for-3 with and drove in three runs, John Nicoll scored three times and Gian Coppolino was 2-for-3 as the Lions slipped past the Oakers. Ethan Gray pitched 4.2 innings allowing only only 2 hits and 2 earned runs with 5 strikeouts for the win. Sean Clifford came on in relief of Gray and earned the save. Logan Downey and Tommy Turner each had two hits for Coventry in the loss. The win moves Lincoln (7-7) ahead of Coventry (6-8) in the Division I-D standings.

Cranston West 4, Toll Gate 2

George Threats drilled a bases-loaded double to score three runs, Colby Kuzman hit a solo home run and Nick Masse tossed a complete-game three-hitter as the Falcons topped the Titans. Both runs against Masse were unearned. Brayden Adler-Maranhao singled in one run and the other came across on an error for Toll Gate.

North Kingstown 9, Cranston East 3

Hank Martin led the Skippers' 13-hit attack with 4 hits and 3 RBIs in the win over the Thunderbolts. North's Robinson Lamond and Brady Spitzer had 2 hits apiece. Evan Beattie added a 2-run homerun for the Skippers which added some insurance for winning pitcher. Jayden Totentino hit a solo homerun for Cranston East.

Division II

Barrington 8, Narragansett 0 (Saturday)

Harrison Cooley pitched six shutout innings allowing only three hits while striking out nine as the Eagles blanked the Mariners for their 12th straight victory. Supplying most of the offense for Barrington were Eli Terrell, who was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, and Quinn Murphy, who belted a triple that plated two runs.

SOFTBALL

Division I

La Salle 15, Smithfield 3

La Salle broke out the hitting sticks with Phoenyx Silva and Elle Kershaw each going deep with 2 RBI each, Ari DeMarco drove in two runs and both Claire Boulanger and Lily Roumelis had two hits and an RBI apiece as the Rams rolled over Smithfield. It was the Rams' eighth straight victory and they improved their record to 13-3 overall.

Division II

Johnston 8, Portsmouth 4

Haley Boudreau threw a complete game, allowing only two unearned runs while recording 8 Ks, and she also helped her own cause at the plate by going 3-for-4 and scoring three runs as Johnston doubled-up on Portsmouth. Also factoring in the win were  Arianna Velasquez and Hannah Calabro, who drove in two runs apiece. Mia Ruggieri led the Patriots with two hits, including a two-run homer.

Division III

Mount St. Charles 11, Central 1

Olivia Young belted a three-run home run, Chandra Morelli smacked a single and a double and drove in three runs, and Sophia Baetta also had a pair of hits, powering Mount to its 13th victory without a loss in the division. Young was also the winning pitcher, striking out 13 while allowing only one hit and an unearned run. Central’s Gabriella Rosario had the one hit, a single.

BOYS LACROSSE

Division II

Cumberland 6, Cranston West 5 (OT)

The Clippers clawed back from a third-quarter 5-3 deficit and forced overtime, before edging the Falcons in their Division II contest. Sean Taylor had 2 goals for Cumberland, James BruckSam AsermelySeth Perron also scored before Patrick Giroux netted the OT winner. Cranston goalie Sam Naiefeh was outstanding in net, coming up with several key saves in the loss.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Division I

Barrington 21, Portsmouth 15

The Eagles extended their winning streak to six with a solid team win over the Patriots. Barrington's seniors shined brightest on Senior Night, with Emma Johnson netting 6 goals and 2 assists, Violet Gagliano added 5 goals and 3 assists and 9 draw controls, and Charlotte Danyla had 4 goals and 2 assists. Kate McAdams held her own with 9 saves for the Eagles. For Portsmouth, Emilie Babola had 5 goals, and Elly Skeels had 3 goals and 1 assist.

Division III

Narragansett 21, Ponaganset 8

Ellie Wooten scored 7 goals, five other players - Natalia Salvadore, Ava Donadio, Julianne Harris, Eris Hughes and Maggie Tapplin - each scored 2 goals and four other girls had a goal apiece as the Mariners rolled to an easy win over the Chieftains. Gianna Zair scored twice for Ponaganset.

Division III

Westerly 16, Cranston East 4

Casey Macera and Hannah Seltzer each found the back of the net 4 times and added 2 assists apiece and Riley Peloquin, Allyson Faubert, and Erica Nyberg had 2 tallies apiece as Westerly upended Cranston East. Lily Tillinghast had a hattrick in the loss.

Division IV

North Smithfield 8, North Providence 7

A hattrick by Ava O'Neill and 2 goals by Nina Finn helped the Northmen get by North Providence. Also contributing to the win were Alina Bienkiewicz, Alyson Smith and Kailey Salinaro, who all had a goal apiece. Goalie Sammy Austin had 12 saves to pick up the win. The Cougars' attack was led by Morgan McGrath who netted a game-high 4 goals. Other goal scorers for NP were Olivia de Palma, Ali Santana and Sandra Angell. Netminder Nina Omanyo had 10 saves in the loss.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Division I

Chariho 3, Hendricken 1

Solid efforts by a trio of players helped pave the way for the Chargers' victory over the Hawks. Matt Tiernan amassed 31 kills, Jody Poplaski dished off 47 assists and Travis Plante was good for 12 blocks as Chariho dominated the Hawks to improve its record to 10-3. Brian Garepy had 9 kills and 19 assists for the Hawks in the loss.

Mount St. Charles/North Smithfield 3, North Kingstown 1 (25-22, 25-12, 14-25, 25-20)

For Mount/NS, Alvendz Viera Dones had 12 kills, Caden Sullivan had 37 assists and Thomas Matchett had 7 kills and 4 blocks. For the Skippers, Quinlan Fahy had 10 kills and 6 blocks.

Cranston East 3, South Kingstown 0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-14)

Jackson Rennick had 8 kills and 6 blocks as he led the Thunderbolts to victory. Bill Gates had 8 kills for the Rebels.

Division III

Woonsocket 3, St. Raphael 1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-12, 25-13)

Devin Merrill was responsible for 11 kills, 4  aces and 3 digs and Alex Herrera had 11 kills and 3 blocks as the Villa Novans held off the Saints for their eighth win against three losses. St. Raphael, which dropped to 7-4, got 12 kills and 5 blocks from Ian Bing and 14 assists and 2 blocks from Jonah Venditto.

Johnston 3, Central Falls 0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-2). JV - CF, 2-0.
