Portage HS scores | May 3: Roosevelt baseball surges past Ravenna with seven-run first

Roosevelt baseball won its first of two games at the David Starkey Memorial Tournament, topping Ravenna 14-4 Friday evening.

After the Ravens jumped in front with a three-run top of the first, the Rough Riders bounced back with seven in the bottom of the inning.

Teddy Maccarone got the rally started, pouncing on the first Ravenna pitch of the game for a leadoff triple. John Estep drove Maccarone home with an RBI single to left, while Ryan Schromm and Jack Smith drove two runs apiece home with a double and a single, respectively, to cap the inning.

Southeast 7, Springfield 0

Joe Sharish tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 13, while Maverick Wood went 3 for 4 with three RBIs.

Logan West also had multiple hits for the Pirates while Logan Lavigna and Cohen Richardson had a double apiece.

Rootstown 2, Waterloo 1

Rovers senior Austin Biggin tossed four scoreless innings of relief to win a pitcher's duel with the Vikings. He relieved Ethan White, who also put up a strong performance, yielding a run in three innings.

Kyle Werbeck took the hard-luck loss for Waterloo despite holding Rootstown to one hit and two runs over seven innings.

Aric May had two hits and the lone RBI for the Vikings.

Sean Boveington had the Rovers' lone hit while Biggin drew four walks.

Softball

Field 9, St. Vincent-St. Mary 7

The Falcons won in dramatic fashion, erasing a two-run deficit with five in the top of the seventh. Cassidy Wells had four singles for Field, while Jessica Pollard had a single and a double.

Abby Harlin and Lilli Sutkowy added two singles apiece.

Streetsboro 17, Western Reserve Academy 4

The Rockets (11-13) had a big day offensively, led by Hailey Miller's double, two singles and four RBIs. Streetsboro's Olivia Knepper also went 3 for 4, driving in three runs, while Khloe Cutright singled and tripled.

Southeast 9, Alliance 8

Lexi Morris celebrated her Senior Night with a homer and a double while the Pirates celebrated with a remarkable rally from a four-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh.

Ava Stephens also had a big performance for Southeast, doubling, homering and driving in four runs, while Morgan Muncy had a double, drew two walks and tossed a scoreless seventh inning.

Howland 10, Rootstown 0

Abby White had two of the Rovers' three hits, going 2 for 2 and drawing a walk.
