Portage HS scores | May 15: Geddes gem, homer lift Garfield baseball to sectional title
Garfield earned a return trip to the baseball district tournament with a 3-2 win over Wickliffe in a Division III sectional final Wednesday.
A district runner-up a year ago, the G-Men won behind senior Eric Geddes, who pitched a three-hitter with 16 strikeouts and added a double and home run. Geddes scored two of the G-Men's three runs and drove in two of their three runs.
Brandyn Bogucki scored the other run, reaching base twice with a double and a walk. Aidan Hill also doubled and walked, driving in Garfield's other run.
Waynedale 6, Rootstown 0
The Rovers lost in a Division III sectional final despite a double by Austin Biggin and another scoreless inning of relief by R.J. Soika.
Shane Coblentz tossed a three-hit shutout for the Golden Bears, striking out nine against two walks.
