Pontiac, Flanagan-Cornell triumph

GARDNER — Alix Robinson had a monster night at the net on offense in helping lead Pontiac to outlast host Gardner-South Wilmington in three sets of their nonconference volleyball match Tuesday night.

The 25-12, 13-25, 25-23 victory completed a sweep for the Indians on the night. PTHS also garnered wins in the preliminary matches.

Robinson chalked up 13 kills on offense and added a block on defense for the Tribe (7-16). Pontiac registered 33 kills for the match. Bailey Masching drove home 9 kills while Cadence Helms and Sydney Gragert had 4 kills apiece.Tessa Poplett added 1 kill. Keara Smith recorded 2 kills and 25 assists on offense. Collins had 3 assists.

Collins led the back-row defense with 20 digs while Smith notched 18 digs and Masching came up with 14.

Pontiac opened the evening's play with a 25-19, 25-19 win in the freshman match. The sophomores prevailed 25-21, 25-16.

Prairie Central-St. Joseph-Ogden

FAIRBURY — It was Senior Night at the home of the Prairie Central Hawks and four players — Emmy Bell, Alexandria Hari, Haley O’Brien and Reily Young — were recognized before the match and got starts in their final home high school volleyball contest.

St. Joseph-Ogden played spoiler as the Spartans proved too much for the scrappy-but-undermanned Hawks team by winning 25-16, 25-18 in the Illini Prairie Conference match.

“It was the girls’ senior night tonight where we recognized and celebrated our four seniors,” PC head coach Kirsten Smith said. “The girls put up a lot of good plays, including when they were in some different positions/rotations.”

Kerigan Fehr yielded her normal starting spot and came off the bench this time to lead the Hawks in successful attacks with 7 kills. Gracie Edelman, who also came off the bench, had 10 assists. Carley Chamber had 3 service points , including a pair of aces, to lead the PC servers.

Fehr and Sawyer Ashman each had 1 block on defense. Chambers came up with 10 digs.

Prairie Central claimed the freshman match 25-18, 25-23. The sophomore match went to St. Joe-Ogden 25-11, 15-25, 25-16.

Flanagan-Cornell-LeRoy

LEROY — Kortney Harms registered a triple double in leading Flanagan-Cornell to a Heart of Illinois Conference volleyball victory over host LeRoy Tuesday night. The Falcons went three sets to capture the 25-18, 23-25, 25-21 decision.

Harms drove home 12 kills and recorded 18 set assists on offense. She also served 4 aces. On defense, Harms came up with 15 digs as the Falcons improved to 15-15 on the season and 5-6 in league play.

Grace Zimmerman also had a big night at the net with 10 kills. She came up with 14 digs on defense. Raegan Montello chalked up 18 assists while Kalynne Kindermann recorded a pair of ace serves and 27 defensive digs.

The teams split the matches on the night as the Panthers captured the sophomore contest 25-23, 25-18 and the each side won a set in the freshman tilt.

Lexington-Fisher

FISHER — Lexington had a strong attacking night as four players combined for 18 kills in a 25-13, 25-23 Heart of Illinois Conference victory over Fisher on the Bunnies' home floor Tuesday.

Avery Poppe and Makayla Ziegler each chalked up 5 kills in leading the Minutemen on the attack. Reagan Haase and Ella DuBois had 4 kills apiece. Mary Doll had 10 assists and Emma Bennett claimed 7 assists. Vivian Wright was the top server with 3 aces.

Ziegler's net play was on display on defense, as well. She had 2 blocks and DuBois and Eva McCue shared a block. Poppe and Wright led the back-row defense with 9 digs apiece and Claire Peacock came up with 8 digs.

Lexington captured the frosh-soph match 25-18, 25-12.
