Poll: Vote for the Journal's Aug. 30 - Sept. 4 Athletes of the Week
With the 2023-24 scholastic year beginning and fall sports underway, Athletes of the Week makes its season debut, recognizing some of the standout performances from local athletes.
Voting will be open until 6 p.m. Thursday. This week's nominees:
Brady Feliciotto, John Jay football
He completed 8 of 12 passes for 170 yards and four touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 92 yards and another score, and snaring an interception on defense. Feliciotto's performance led the Patriots in a 48-13 win over Roosevelt to open the season.
Blythe McQuade, Spackenkill girls soccer
The junior scored three goals in the Spartans' 5-1 win over Onteora last Friday.

Quite a night: Line shines as Haldane wins big in Dover's return to 11-man
Isabelle Faraldi, Red Hook girls soccer
The sophomore made 12 saves to preserve a scoreless tie for the Raiders against Section 2's Greenville last Thursday. Faraldi withstood heavy pressure as the Spartans controlled possession, drew six corner kicks and got off 19 shots.
Joe Tempestelli, Lourdes football
The senior ran for 115 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, and had five tackles and a sack, leading the Warriors in a 44-14 win over Spackenkill last Friday.
Sam Fleming, Rhinebeck boys golf
He shot a 3-over 39 at Red Hook Golf Club to lead the Hawks in a 175-206 win over Highland last Friday.
Ava Jordan, John Jay girls soccer
She scored three goals for the Patriots in a 4-2 win over defending Section 9 Class B champion Our Lady of Lourdes.
Ryan Van Tassel, Haldane football
The quarterback ran for 135 yards and three touchdowns and threw a 39-yard touchdown in the Blue Devils' 42-13 win over Dover last Friday.
Derek Viebrock, John Jay boys soccer
The midfielder had a goal and an assist for the Patriots, leading them in a 4-1 win over Horace Greeley to open the season last Wednesday. Viebrock's goal tied the score at 1 just before halftime, and he assisted Andy Melendez's tally in the 65th minute that gave John Jay a two-goal lead.
Joshua Bishop, Highland football
The junior had a breakout performance in the Huskies' season opener Saturday, catching three touchdown passes, returning a punt for another score and kicking five extra points in a 41-6 win over Liberty.
Mike Rescigno, Arlington football
He threw three touchdowns and broke a 75-yard touchdown run, leading the Admirals in a 49-21 win over Kellenberg (Long Island) last Saturday. Rescigno also made his debut on defense, starting at safety, and had two tackles for loss and a pass breakup.
Dylan Updike, Spackenkill boys soccer
The senior tied a career-high with four goals, leading the Spartans in a 6-2 win over Onteora last Thursday.
Landon Ramsey, Red Hook football
The quarterback scored two rushing touchdowns and had two interceptions, one of which he returned for a 97-yard touchdown, leading the Raiders in a 28-19 win over Beacon last Saturday.
Miles Brooks, Marlboro football
He completed 7 of 10 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown and ran for 40 yards and another score in Marlboro's 21-14 win over Saugerties last Saturday. Brooks' 50-yard touchdown to Antonio Hickman at the end of the second quarter gave the Iron Dukes a 7-6 lead, sparking a second-half charge.
