POLL: Citizen Times and Times-News boys wrestler of the year

The North Carolina high school boys wrestling season is winding down.

The NCHSAA boys dual-team playoffs are in the third and regional rounds, and state championships will be held this weekend. Western North Carolina has four teams in Robbinsville, Avery County, Madison and Pisgah, still vying for a state title. Regionals for the individual tournament will start on Feb. 9.

With the season coming to a close, the Citizen Times and Times-News wanted to take a closer look at boys wrestler of the year candidates. Fans may vote one time per hour. The poll is set to end Monday at noon.

Benjamin Jordan, Avery County: Jordan has gone 45-1 this season at 132. He is going for his third straight 1A title.

Jaxon Turner, Brevard: Turner is the returning 2A state champion at 170 pounds. The senior has gone 36-1.

Ray Laney, Brevard: Laney is the returning 2A state runner-up at 195. The senior has put together a 33-1 record.

Gunner Marshall, East Henderson: Marshall was a state runner-up in 3A at 120. The junior has compiled a 45-4 record.

Kane Bryson, Pisgah: Bryson has tallied a 40-2 record this season.

Xander Hill, Pisgah: Hill was the 3A state runner-up at 152. The senior has achieved a 46-1 record.

Jadyn Virgil, Polk County: Virgil has a 38-4 record. He finished sixth last season in 2A at 182.

Reese Meadows, North Henderson: Meadows has 45 wins, only one loss and 36 pins this season.

Kage Williams, Robbinsville: The Appalachian State has put together an undefeated season at 34-0 at 190. He won the 1A state title at 182 last season.
