Players primed to lead for the 2023 CU Buffs

Nate Landman. Jordan Dizon. Phillip Lindsay. Alfred Williams. Joe Garten. Those are just a few outstanding leaders in the history of Colorado Buffaloes football. With all of the roster shakeup going on in Boulder, a new group must be established — and quickly — so the team can hit the ground running once the season starts.

Head coach Deion Sanders and his staff identified some of those players in the spring when they handed out uniform numbers, but a lot can change between now and Week 1. As we’ve done in recent days, we got the expert opinion of BuffStampede’s Jimmie Searfoss to help us determine potential leaders for the 2023 Buffs:

Sanders, Travis Hunter and Shane Cokes are shoe-ins for the captain slot. Tyler Brown has been a model teammate when it comes to the type of player Coach Prime wants attitude and work ethic-wise. I expect someone like LaVonta Bentley to be included as a captain as well as he is expected to play a major role on defense. To cap it off I’d expect someone from the previous team that has worked their way into this team’s starting lineup, either a Van Wells or Trevor Woods.
