Pistons’ Dwane Casey credits Patrick Ewing for developing Jamorko Pickett

Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey on Wednesday offered some praise to rookie Jamorko Pickett for the way he has performed to this point of training camp.

Pickett, who went undrafted out of Georgetown, played with the Pistons in the Las Vegas Summer League. He averaged 9.8 points and 3.8 rebounds in five games, and finished his stay by posting 15 points and five rebounds over his last three games.

The Pistons eventually signed Pickett to a two-way contract, and he has impressed in training camp. He had totaled just two points and one rebound during his first two preseason games but recorded seven points and five rebounds on Wednesday for his best game.

Casey gave some credit to Hoyas head coach Patrick Ewing for helping develop Pickett.

One young man that has looked good in camp and hadn’t played well in the first two exhibition games is Jamorko Pickett, a young man from Georgetown. Patrick (Ewing) did a heck of a job coaching and teaching him. He is ready for the NBA. You tell him one thing once and he gets it right. His future is going to be bright. He’ll probably spend time back and forth with the G League but Pat did a good job with him at Georgetown.

Pickett, who was the first top-100 recruit to commit to Georgetown under Ewing, averaged a career-high 12.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and one steal in 26 games last season as a senior with the Hoyas. He helped lead Georgetown to the first round of the NCAA Tournament

Detroit is certainly building toward the future with such a young roster and Pickett will be part of that group, at least for this season. He will have the opportunity to spend time with the Pistons and the Motor City Cruise in the NBA G League and that should help his development.
