PIAA Class AA: Joey Bachman, nation's No. 1 wrestler at 107 pounds, advances at Hershey

Quakertown academy Faith Christian dominated the mats Friday morning in PIAA Class AA Boys Wrestling championships at the Giant Center in Hershey.

107 pounds: Faith Christian freshman Joey Bachmann, the No. 1 ranked 107 pounder in Class 2A and the nation, moved on to semifinals with a 9-3 win over Bald Eagle Area's Tanner Guenot in the quarterfinals.107 pounds: Conwell-Egan freshman Thomas Boyce piled up the points early on the way to a solid 14-6 major-decision win over Trinity's Jordan Manyette in his quarterfinal match at 107 pounds. The win moved Boyce into semifinal action.114 pounds: Conwell-Egan's Kevin Bagnell was edged 6-4 by Bald Eagle Area's Caden Judice in his third-round consolation bout. The loss eliminated Bagnell from the tournament. Earlier Friday, Bagnell kept his tournament hopes going with a solid 7-1 win over Canton's Lyle Vermilya in a second-round consolation match. Bagnell advances to the third round of consolations. 121 pounds: Faith Christian's Gauge Botero, a returning PIAA champ, lost for the second time this season to Louie Gill of Reynolds, this time by a 6-5 score in the quarterfinals at 121 pounds. Botero briefly had a 4-1 lead before Gill, a senior, who won a PIAA title as a freshman, battled back. The loss dropped Botero into the consolation, where the University of Michigan commit stayed alive later Friday morning, bouncing back with a 9-2 win over Antonio Boni of Central Valley in the third round of consolations. The win assured Botero of a medal for the third-straight season.

133 pounds: Conwell-Egan senior Charlie Robson slipped past Warrior Run's Max Wirnsberger 1-0 in his third-round consolation bout at 133 pounds. The win assured Robson of at least a top eight finish.145 pounds: Faith Christian's Chase Hontz assured himself of a top eight finish after a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Commodore Perry's Wyatt Lazzar in his third-round consolation bout at 145 pounds. Earlier, Chase Hontz won his second-round consolation bout by forfeit to advance.152 pounds: Faith Christian's Max Stein used a cradle for three back points midway through the third period to pick up a 4-2 win over Gage Wentzel of Montoursville in his quarterfinal bout at 152 pounds. Up next for Stein will be semifinals.160 pounds: Faith Christian sophomore Cael Weidemoyer soared into the semifinals at 160 pounds after a 10-0 major-decision win over Hopewell's Isiah Pisano.

172 pounds: Faith Christian sophomore Adam Waters, a returning PIAA champion, roared into the semifinals with a 16-0 technical fall over Port Allegheny's Aiden Bliss at 172 pounds. Waters needed just two minutes and 20 seconds to record the win. He's now 41-4 on the season and is yet to lose to a wrestler from Pennsylvania.189 pounds: Faith Christian's Cody Wagner recorded a 5-2 win over Schuylkill Haven's Augustus Warke in his third-round consolation bout. The victory assured Wagner of at least a top eight finish. In his opening Friday match, Wagner stayed alive by posting a 7-0 win over Carter Storm of Bermudian Springs in a second-round consolation match.215 pounds: Faith Christian's Jason Singer was dominant on top as he blanked Mount Union's Josh Ryan 4-0 in his quarterfinal match at 215 pounds. The victory moved Singer into the semifinal round.215 pounds: Conwell-Egan senior Dante Burns, who missed a chunk of the season due to injury, assured himself of a second PIAA medal with an 11-4 win over Montoursville's Cole Yonkin in the third round of consolations at 215 pounds. Burns, who placed eighth a year ago, built an early lead on the way to his 99th career win. Earlier Friday, Burns stayed alive for a medal by notching a 9-6 win over Ryan Dedrick of General McLane in a second-round consolation bout.

285 pounds: Faith Christian sophomore Mark Effendian pinned Greenville's Joey Peterson midway through the second period in his third round consolation bout at 285 pounds. The victory assured Effendian of his first PIAA medal.
