Phoenix Suns sign big Udoka Azubuike to two-way deal
The Phoenix Suns have signed center Udoka Azubuike to a two-way deal, the team announced Tuesday.
A first-round pick in the 2020 draft (27th overall) out of Kansas, the 6-11, 270-pound Azubuike averaged 3.3 points and three rebounds in 68 career games (10 starts) over the course of three seasons with the Utah Jazz.
"Udoka possesses imposing size and the ability to finish around the rim,” said Suns president of basketball operations and general manager James Jones in a news release. “His strength and physicality help add to our team’s depth.”
From Nigeria, Azubuike played for the Boston Celtics in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas last month. He averaged 7.4 points on 81.8% shooting and 6.6 rebounds in five summer league games.
The Celtics listed him as 6-10, 280. He wore No. 51 for the Celtics after sporting No. 20 for the Jazz.
NBA teams can now have three two-way players. The Suns have two in guard Saben Lee and Azubuike.
