What the Phoenix Suns should accept in trade for Kevin Durant

Trade rumors involving Kevin Durant need to be taken seriously.

The NBA is a players’ league, and if a superstar wants to move, he gets moved.

So, if I were advising Phoenix Suns General Manager James Jones, this is what I’d tell him to look for as speculation swirls around Chad Ochocinco's statement that KD would play for the Heat …

… Eric Spolestra, Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler. But Ochocinco would have to FaceTime KD to see if this is what the 14-time All-Star really wants to do.

… Tom Thibodeau and Jalen Brunson. Maybe then Stephen A. Smith would stop trying to recruit Devin Booker to the Knicks?

… Doc Brown’s DeLorean and a few million AA batteries to produce the 1.21 gigawatts necessary for time travel to 1988 so I could bring “Back To the Future”:

  • Michael Jordan, that’s the season His Airness won MVP and defensive player of the year.

  • Mike Tyson, there’s no way Jake Paul would be fighting THAT guy on Netflix.

  • And Michael Jackson, he had five No. 1 singles that year, which wasn’t “Bad.”

… Two Avengers, but if Nick Fury wouldn’t include the Hulk, then Tony Stark would have to be willing to take on Bradley Beal’s contract and throw in a couple of unprotected draft picks.

… Abe Lincoln’s beard and an athletic director for Arizona State.

… Tickets to see the Wu-Tang Clan, but all original members, including ODB, would need to perform or any deal involving Book or KD would be voided faster than you can say, “Chris Paul to the Lakers.”

… a lifetime supply of Rogaine and three All-Stars who are so young they don’t need it.

… an autographed copy of the Bible and a prime Earl Monroe (whose nickname was “Black Jesus.”)

… Vanna White’s vowels, Pat Sajak’s consonants and a new arena for the Arizona Coyotes.

… That Andy Warhol painting of Marilyn Monroe and an athletic power forward with a couple of years left on his rookie deal.

… A Kehinde Wiley painting of me, dunking on Kevin Durant, and a trainer capable of getting all the injured Arizona Diamondbacks back on the field.

… a Ken Burns documentary of my life using all the pics and videos in my iCloud plus a couple of shutdown corners for the Arizona Cardinals.

… Either Anthony Edwards or Karl Anthony-Towns, Rudy Gobert and a broom.

Bottom line, I wouldn’t trade Durant, Booker or Beal. And I’d keep Frank Vogel, too. But I’d insist he install an offensive system that maximizes efficiency, something like what the Heat used during the King James dynasty or what the Warriors were using during their glory days.

The trade speculation needs to be taken seriously, but I wouldn’t break up the Big Three this summer.
