Petersburg wins own holiday tournament; Frankfort falls to Lincoln; Paw Paw loses

Dec. 29—PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Peyton Tingler scored a game-high 24 points to guide Petersburg to its 30th Petersburg Holiday Tournament title with a 57-43 triumph over Pendleton County on Saturday night.

The tournament, which began in in 1960 as the St. John's Academy Memorial Holiday Tournament and was founded by Petersburg coach Carroll Michael, is the longest-running holiday tournament in West Virginia.

The Vikings (7-1), winners of six straight, routed Union, 72-26, in the semifinals Friday. Moorefield lost to Pendleton, 52-43, in the other semifinal but defeated Union, 46-33, in the consolation game on Saturday.

Petersburg led 13-11 after the first quarter but trailed 27-23 at the half. Josiah Kimble scored eight of his 11 points in the quarter. Wyatt Franklin (11) and Chase Owens (10) also finished in double figures for the Wildcats.

The Vikings took a 43-41 lead entering the fourth before outscoring Pendleton, 14-2, in the decider to secure the championship.

Trace Rohrbaugh (10) and Carter Hrady (10) also ended in double figures for the Vikings, and Kaleb Kuhn ended with nine.

In its semifinal rout of Union, Pendleton was paced by Tingler's 19 points — 15 of which came in the first half. Kuhn added 10 points.

Petersburg has a home rematch with Pendleton County on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Lincoln 56, No. 5 Frankfort 50

PHILIPPI, W.Va. — David Burdette and Nate Swiger combined for 33 points, and Lincoln defeated No. 5 Frankfort at the Lincoln Christmas Tournament on Friday night.

The Falcons (3-4) led 14-9 after the first quarter behind eight points from Cam Layton, including two 3-pointers, but trailed 27-23 at the half and 46-41 entering the decider.

Burdette scored seven of his game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter. Swiger added 16.

Layton and Jeremy Phillips ended with 15 points each for Frankfort. The duo also both hit a trio of 3-pointers.

Frankfort is at Trinity Christian on Wednesday.

Turkeyfoot 61, Paw Paw 49

TURKEYFOOT, Pa. — Behind 35 points from Lance Jones, Turkeyfoot took down Paw Paw on Friday night.

The Pirates (6-4) were playing in their fourth game in four days, and they ran out of steam in the fourth quarter getting outscored by Turkeyfoot, 18-10.

Jones made 12 field goals and 10 of 14 free throws. Drake Sellers added 17 points.

Donovan Tanouye topped Paw Paw with 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Aiden Crabtree joined him in double figures with 14 points, and Greyson Corbett and Taylor Carder chipped in seven each.
