Peralta deserves to be on radars of managers

Chris Crawford breaks down Wily Peralta's eye-popping ratios and explains while it's not all smoke and mirrors, fantasy managers need to heed caution.

CHRISTOPHER CRAWFORD: We are about to talk about Wily Peralta being fantasy relevant. And no-- we didn't step in any sort of time machine. Peralta has mostly been irrelevant since winning 17 games with a 3.53 ERA as a member of the Brewers back in 2014, but he's pitching as well-- heck, better-- than he did in that brief heyday. After hurling seven scoreless innings against the Twins on Sunday, Peralta has lowered his ERA in 33 innings with the Tigers to 1.64. And, in the month of July, the 32-year-old has a 0.47 mark, while allowing just one run in 19 innings of work.

So, is this smoke and mirrors, or is it legit? It's worth pointing out that he's made two starts against Minnesota, and one against the Rangers. So he's not exactly facing the best lineups in baseball. And he ranks well below average in strikeout percentage, whiff rate, and hard hit percentage. He's also well above average in expected batting average, however, and expected ERA. So, it is not complete luck.

Long story short-- Peralta's pitching well, and he deserves to be on fantasy radars. It's just, you have to be prepared for some regression as well.
