How Peoria Notre Dame played its way to another IHSA state championship game

HOFFMAN ESTATES — One goal was all it took for the Peoria Notre Dame boys soccer team to achieve one of its goals.

Thatcher Hogan's score just before halftime helped lift the Irish to a 2-0 victory over Burbank St. Laurence on Friday evening at the Illinois High School Association Class 2A state semifinals.

PND, the reigning Class 2A state champion, will get a chance to repeat with a championship matchup at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against Crystal Lake South (21-4-1).

This gives PND (22-1-3), vying to become a six-time state champ, an opportunity to win back-to-back state titles for the first time in program history.

Hogan collected a missed PND shot and fired home his 20th goal of the season past Vikings goalkeeper Vin Diesi. The junior midfielder then set the final score with his second goal off a Thomas Graham assist with 9:44 to play in the match. He now has scored five goals over his last three state final matches.

A chippy second half saw three yellow cards handed in three minutes and three more later in the period. Teddy Dimler recorded the shutout for the Irish. The senior goalkeeper recorded his 16th clean sheet of the season.
