Penn State vs. West Virginia: Stream and broadcast info for Saturday, Sept. 2

After months of counting down to this exact moment, Penn State’s season opener is finally here. The Nittany Lions, coming off a fine 11-2 seasons apepd by a victory in the Rose Bowl, open the 2023 season at home in front of a frenzied Beaver Stadium crowd. West Virginia will make their first trip to State College since 1991. A lot has changed since that last visit by the Mountaineers.

Beaver Stadium has increased in capacity multiple times, Penn State has joined the Big Ten, West Virginia moved from the Big East to the Big 12, and the method od crowning a national champion has evolved from going strictly by the polls to using a computer formula, to a four-team College Football Playoff. If Penn State is going to make their first playoff appearance this season, it will start with a home win against West Virginia.

Penn State will host the grand debut of NBC’s new Big Ten primetime schedule. The Big Ten and NBC begin their new media rights partnership this season as the Big Ten has branched out with new media deals beginning in 2023. NBC will highlight the Big Ten in its new primetime slot, accompanying its current Notre Dame programming. NBC must love the chance to get the near-whiteout experience in its first primetime game (something CBS will get to showcase later this month as well).

This will be the first time NBC has ever broadcast a game from Penn State, although the Nittany Lions have appeared on the network 10 times (eight times in bowl games). This is the first NBC appearance for Penn State since playing at Notre Dame in 2006. Penn State is 7-3 all-time on NBC, including its most notable win in program history.

So go out and take care of your errands and any housework obligations during the day. You will want to make yourself comfortable on the couch with a good snack and beverage by your side for the start of something wonderful tonight on NBC.
