PCA's Malone, Oyster River's Kavanagh both place in top 10 at New England meet

NORTH SCITUATE, Rhode Island – Two Seacoast runners placed in the top 10 at Saturday’s New England Cross Country championship race at Ponaganset High School.

Portsmouth Christian Academy senior Brianna Malone, who won last Saturday’s New Hampshire Meet of Champions, covered the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 33.6 seconds and placed second. Junior Ruth White of Orono (Maine) High School beat the 245-runner field in a time of 17:51.3.

Oyster River sophomore Haley Kavanagh was eighth overall in a time of 18:58.9, while classmate Mackenzie Cook placed 16th in 19:10.4.

Dover placed 14th in the 29-team field with 408 points, while Winnacunnet (416) was 16th, Oyster River (440) was 19th, Marshwood (582) was 26th, and York (620) was 28th.

Dover junior Isabel McIntyre (32nd, 20:08.3), Winnacunnet Charlotte Koutalidis (58th, 20:12.5), Dover junior Alyson Bortz (66th, 20:18.6), York junior Molly Kenealy (68th, 20:19.53), Newmarket junior Alanna Hagan (73rd, 20:23.1), Marshwood senior Addie Fuller (86th, 20:43.1) and Exeter senior Meadow Gregory (95th, 20:54.1) all finished in the top `100.

In the boys race, Winnacunnet senior Jon Savage (17:17.4) was 95th, and Oyster River senior Chris Jernigan (17:20.2) was 100th. York placed 29th in the 30-team field.
