Panthers great Greg Olsen may not be getting ousted by Tom Brady after all
The folks over at FOX are staring down the barrel of a tough decision involving Carolina Panthers great Greg Olsen and the greatest of all-time. But the latter may ultimately just make that decision for them.
While recently retired quarterback Tom Brady remains in line push Olsen aside as the lead color commentator for FOX’s NFL programming, New York Post sports media columnist Andrew Marchand has a feeling that the seven-time Super Bowl champion might not even make it to the booth.
“I’ve talked to a couple people recently—close to Brady—and I kinda feel like I’m goin’ more 49-percent chance he does it, 51-percent chance he doesn’t. I don’t think he wants to travel that much,” he said on the latest episode of The Marchand and Ourand Sports Media Podcast. “I think Brady’s a guy—that if he’s in, he’s all in. So he’s not gonna be showing up day of games like Joe Buck and [Troy] Aikman do sometimes. He’s gonna be there early if he’s gonna do it. So it’s a four-day event. Again, cry me a river for that type of money for five and a half months.
“But I think he shares his kids with Gisele [Bündchen]. I think that’s very important to him. And he can make money elsewhere.”
The money he can make in Olsen’s spot would amount to $375 million over 10 years. That run is slated to begin in the 2024 season.
If it doesn’t, FOX (and football fans) will still have themselves an Emmy-nominated voice to enjoy for years to come.
