Packers varsity track and field win 1st place twice during meet at Lowndes

Mar. 15—MOULTRIE — Two 1st place finishes were obtained from the Packers varsity track and field squad during the Lowndes meet on Wednesday.

Both during relay races, the first was the 4x200-meter and the second the 4x400.

Three Packers competed in both races: Matt Bryant, Joshua Alford and Dy'Quavian James.

Assisting the the 4x200 was Jalen Clayton, and the group completed the race in 1:31.31.

With a finishing time of 3:39.13, the quartet placed 1st during the 4x400 with Jaquez Collier as the fourth athlete.

Four more placement for the Packers would be in 3rd or 2nd place, with three in track event and one one in field.

Competing in shot put, Bryce Toomer took 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 46-6.

Joining Toomer in shot put were JarTavius Flounoy, who took 6th place with 43-3, and Johnny Clay in 7th with 41-0.

Two relay teams also placed 2nd — the 4x100 and the 4x800.

Packers saw a finishing time of 9:28.25 in the 4x800 with the following athletes as runners: Robert Baker, Chris Williams, Timothy Downs, Jayln Green.

Ameri Knighton, Alford, Clayton and James ran the 4x100 in 44.17.

Also racing in the 4x100 was the B team of Khan Lee Bender, Samuel O'Neal, Naryan Spivey and Kamari Fuller, who took 6th place with 45.19.

As the single 3rd place finisher, Collier received it in the 400 when he crossed the finish line in 53.12.

Two Packers received a 4th place finish.

Ja'Shar Kinsey, with a distance of 5-10, in the high jump, and with a distance of 129-7.5, Toomer in the discus.

Directly behind Toomer was Flounoy in 5ith with a discus throw of 128-1. Flounoy was the only Packer to take a 5th place finishing spot.

In addition to Flounoy's 6th place finish in shot put, there was one additional Packer athlete who received a 6th place finish: Alford ran the 100 in 11.56.

The final four placements for the Packers were all 8th place.

18.39 was the finishing time for Chris Williams in the 110 hurdles.

The 300 hurdles saw Alfonso McNeil take 8th with a finishing time of 47.36.

Finally, the two remaining 8th place finishes came via field events.

Knighton competed in the triple jump and had a distance of 39-4.

In the long jump was Ja'Shar Kinsey who had a distance of 19-11.

The Packers track and field squad will next compete at Packer Park, beginning at 4p.m. on Wednesday March, 20.
