Packers make trio of changes to practice squad, including signing S Innis Gaines

The Green Bay Packers made three changes to the practice squad on Tuesday, including the signing of safety Innis Gaines, who spent a year and a half in Green Bay before being waived in August.

In addition to signing Gaines, the Packers released linebacker Ray Wilborn and cornerback Benjie Franklin.

Gaines arrived in Green Bay as an undrafted free agent out of TCU in January of 2021. He spent all of the 2021 season on the team’s practice squad and with the Packers through training camp of this year, but the team waived him injured on Aug. 30.

Wilborn, an undrafted free agent, had been with the Packers since the start of the 2021 season. Franklin was signed to the practice squad following final cuts in August.

By signing Gaines but releasing Wilborn and Franklin, the Packers now have an open spot on the practice squad. The team is expected to workout receiver Ty Fryfogle as part of the weekly Tuesday workouts.

The Packers also officially claimed offensive tackle Luke Tenuta off of waivers from the Indianapolis Colts, as was reported on Monday.
