Pace, Navarre and Washington flag football teams earn bids to region tournaments

Three area teams are headed to the regional tournament for flag football.

During a live selection show on Saturday morning from the FHSAA, which was postponed a day due to weather delaying some district championship games around the state, two teams from Santa Rosa County and one team from Escambia County found out their fate as far as the postseason goes.

In Class 2A, both Pace and Navarre made it to the region tournament. Pace defeated Navarre on Thursday in the District 1-2A championship, 19-0, giving the Patriots their second district title in three years. This is their third consecutive trip to the region tournament.

Pace earned the No. 3 seed seed in the tournament, and will host Niceville in the quarterfinals on Thursday. It'll be a rematch of the District 1-2A semifinal matchup, where the Patriots topped the Eagles, 34-0.

Navarre, which had a program record-tying 14 wins through the regular season and district tournament, mustered the No. 2 seed in the Region 1-2A tournament. The Raiders will also host on Thursday, and will take on Forest (Ocala).

In Class 1A, Booker T. Washington's turnaround season is staying alive under second-year head coach Joshua Brooks. Earning the No. 8 seed in the tournament, the Wildcats will go to No. 1 Choctaw on Wednesday for the region quarterfinals.

Choctaw was the 2023 state runner-up in Class 1A, and was upset by Fort Walton Beach in the District 1-1A championship.
