OU softball extends winning streak to 61 with win over McNeese State
OU softball got off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the first, and that’s all the Sooners pitchers needed as they beat McNeese State 3-0 Saturday night at the Cowgirl Challenge in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
The Sooners extended their NCAA-record winning streak to 61 and improved to 8-0 on the season.
Earlier Saturday, the Sooners beat Lamar 8-0.
Riley Ludlam delivered and RBI double in the first, followed by Tiare Jennings’ RBI single, to give OU the lead.
But McNeese State went to Shaelyn Sanders, who kept the Sooners off the board until Cydney Sanders’ no-doubt solo home run to lead off the sixth.
OU has given up just seven runs — four earned — so far this season.
In Saturday’s second game, it was Karlie Keeney, SJ Geurin, Nicole May, and Kelly Maxwell who combined to shut down McNeese State.
Keeney started with three scoreless innings, Geurin threw 2/3 innings of relief and then May come on to throw 2 1/3 hitless innings. Maxwell threw a scoreless seventh to put the game away.
The Sooners wrap up their weekend action at 11 a.m. Sunday against Central Arkansas.
A win would not only stretch the Sooners’ winning streak to 62 but also give the Sooners a winning streak that stretches past a calendar year. OU’s last loss — their only loss last season — came Feb. 19, 2023.
