OU softball sweeps Texas Tech as Patty Gasso becomes first coach with 400 wins in Big 12

OU softball kept right on rolling Sunday, beating Texas Tech 11-1 to wrap up a three-game sweep of the Red Raiders in Lubbock, Texas.

Alyssa Brito hit two home runs to finish off the series sweep and make OU coach Patty Gasso the first coach in Big 12 history with 400 career conference wins.

The top-ranked Sooners (27-1, 6-0 Big 12) have won nine consecutive games.

After scoring 12 in the top of the first in Saturday’s eventual 15-2 win, Sunday’s game started a bit slower, but OU still jumped ahead first.

Ella Parker drove in a run with a single after Jayda Coleman led off the game with a single and advanced to second on a groundout.

Cydney Sanders drove in Parker on a single later in the inning.

The Red Raiders cut into the lead in the third with back-to-back-to-back singles off Sooners’ starter Nicole May.

The Sooners got some insurance in the fifth on Brito’s two-run homer, and then added another in the sixth on Rylie Boone’s RBI single.

Brito led off the seventh with another home run, her ninth of the season, and Boone delivered a two-run single later in the inning.

The Sooners outscored the Red Raiders 40-3 in the series.

May (9-0) went six innings, allowing seven hits — all singles — and striking out six. Karlie Keeney threw a scoreless seventh to put the game away.

Brito finished 3 for 5 with two runs and three RBIs.

Avery Hodge went 2 for 2 with two runs.

OU returns to Love’s Field to take on Texas-Arlington at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Sooners host Baylor for a three-game series next weekend, including a Friday matchup at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
