Final: Oklahoma State 27, Oklahoma 24

That's a wrap for Bedlam ... for now.

Here are five takeaways for the Cowboys and five for the Sooners.

Fourth quarter: Sooners turn it over on downs

OU goes for it on 4th and 5, but Drake Stoops catches it short of the first down. OSU takes over as it leads 27-24 with 1:01 left in the game. Victory formation time for the Cowboys.

Fourth quarter: Sooners settle for field goal after no pass interference call

Zack Schmit hit a 36-yard field goal with 4:48 remaining to pull OU within three, 27-24.

Earlier, Schmit had missed a 51-yarder.

The drive got down deep into Cowboys’ territory quickly, with a 13-yard pass to Drake Stoops and a 46-yarder to Jalil Farooq before the drive stalled.

On third down, Dillon Gabriel targeted Stoops in the end zone and there appeared to be defensive pass interference, but no foul was called.

Fourth quarter: Cowboys get takeaway, field goal

OU quarterback Dillon Gabriel mishandled a shotgun snap that came out low and hot, setting the Cowboys up for a field goal to stretch the OSU lead to 27-21 with 6:59 to play..

After OSU had scored to take the lead, OU fumbled on the first snap. The low snap bounced back toward the line of scrimmage where it was recovered by OSU defensive lineman Kody Walterscheid.

OSU was unable to move the chains, taking a 34-yard field goal from Alex Hale, his second field goal of the day.

Fourth quarter: Ollie Gordon II caps 97-yard drive with TD

Oklahoma State retook the lead with a 1-yard TD run by Ollie Gordon II that capped an eight-play 97-yard drive for a 24-21 Cowboy lead with 7:59 to play.

Gordon, who had been intercepted when throwing the ball on a trick play on the previous possession, had a few key runs on the possession. He surpassed 100 yards for the game, now at 121 on 28 carries with two touchdowns.

The Pokes also benefited from 30 yards of penalties on one play, when an OU defender was flagged for pass interference and coach Brent Venables was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for arguing the call.

Fourth quarter: Dillon Gabriel, punter extraordinaire

With Oklahoma State threatening, the Sooners’ defense once again came up with a big play. After the OU defense had back-to-back fourth-down stops on the previous two drives, this time it was Billy Bowman pulling down the interception for the Sooners’ first takeaway of the game.

Bowman returned it 39 yards to the OU 44.

The offense couldn’t take advantage, stalling out quickly, but quarterback Dillon Gabriel kicked a pooch punt on fourth down, and it was downed at the OSU 3 to pin the Cowboys near the goal line.

OU leads 21-17 with 12:42 remaining.

Fourth quarter: Ollie Gordon THROWS an interception

And OSU goes with the trick play. Ollie Gordon throws an interception on the half-back pass. He did play some QB in high school. But that pass was not good.

Third quarter: Cowboy defense holds on fourth down

After the OSU offense got stopped on a couple of short fourth-down tries in the third quarter, the defense answered with a stop of its own to keep the OU lead at 21-17.

The Sooners had bailed themselves out of difficult situations with long third-down conversions, but a dropped pass ended the drive near the red zone.

For the game, OU is 5-of-9 on third down and 0-of-1 on fourth. OSU’s offense is 5-of-13 on third and 1-of-4 on fourth.

— Scott Wright, Staff writer

Third quarter: Offense stalls out

OU goes for it on 4th and 5 at OSU's 30, but Brenen Thompson can't haul in the short pass. The Cowboys take over as they trail 21-17 with 2:17 left in the third quarter.

Third quarter: Tawee Walker runs Sooners into lead

Tawee Walker had spent much of the game on the sidelines.

But when Walker finally got the ball, he made the most of it.

Walker’s 23-yard touchdown with 8:05 remaining in the third quarter put OU up for the first time, 21-17, on Oklahoma State.

Walker had been in the game for just one play prior to the touchdown.

A couple plays before his run, Walker jogged onto the field on a play where the Cowboys were eventually called for having too many men on the field.

After the penalty, Walker came back out, giving way to freshman Daylan Smothers.

But after Drake Stoops caught a 26-yard pass on third-and-13 to keep the drive alive, Walker came back and found room on the right side for the touchdown.

The score was Walker’s sixth of the season.

After the touchdown run, the teams are tied in rushing yards with 115 each.

Third quarter: Dillon Gabriel throws interception

OSU true freshman safety Dylan Smith came up with his second interception of the season on a deep throw by OU’s Dillon Gabriel. Smith was in coverage as two OSU defenders converged on the OU receiver.

Smith tipped the ball, then gathered it and returned it 26 yards.

Halftime: Cowboys 17, Sooners 14

Oklahoma State survived a couple of late scares with deep passes from OU quarterback Dillon Gabriel that fell incomplete, and OSU couldn’t do anything with its final possession of the half, going to the locker room with a 17-14 lead on the Sooners.

OU couldn’t connect on a couple of deep throws, one of which was underthrown and another that was dropped, forcing a punt.

The Cowboys moved back near midfield with running back Ollie Gordon II going down with what appeared to be a minor injury just before halftime. QB Alan Bowman threw a Hail Mary on the final play of the half, but it fell incomplete.

OSU has 254 yards and OU 251 at the half.

Second quarter: Sooners miss FG, chance to tie game

The Sooners had a chance to tie, but Zach Schmit couldn’t quite come through.

Schmit’s 51-yard attempt sailed wide right late in the first half to keep Oklahoma State up 17-14.

Schmit has missed field goals in four of OU’s last five games. He didn’t attempt one in last week’s loss at Kansas.

Second quarter: Dillon Gabriel connects with Drake Stoops for TD

OU needed a big answer.

Trailing by 10 midway through the second quarter, the Sooners' offense showed some life for the first time since their opening drive.

Drake Stoops caught a six-yard TD pass from Dillon Gabriel to pull OU within three, 17-14, with 7:06 to go in the second quarter.

Stoops had three catches for 42 yards on the drive — all in the final four plays of the drive.

The biggest was his 27-yard reception on second-and-9 to put the Sooners inside the OSU 10.

Earlier in the drive, the Sooners faced third-and-12 from their own 40 and Gabriel hit Jalil Farooq for a 17-yard gain to keep the drive alive.

— Ryan Aber, Staff writer

Second quarter: Alex Hale extends OSU’s lead

OSU placekicker Alex Hale’s kick was good from 36 yards and the Cowboys extended their lead to 17-7 with 9:42 to play in the first half.

Hale, playing in his first Bedlam, is now 19-of-25 for the season.

— Scott Wright, Staff writer

Second quarter: OSU’s Jason Brooks Jr. exits on crutches

OSU offensive lineman Jason Brooks Jr., who missed the last 1 ½ games with a lower leg injury, was seen on the ESPN broadcast leaving the field on crutches early in the second quarter.

Brooks and Cole Birmingham have rotated at left guard the past few weeks when Brooks has been available.

— Scott Wright, Staff writer

Second quarter: Alan Bowman runs for go-ahead TD

On the first play of the second quarter, OSU quarterback Alan Bowman zig-zagged through OU defenders on his way to a 13-yard rushing touchdown.

The play was reviewed to see if Bowman had gotten into the end zone before his knee hit the ground, and the call was upheld.

Bowman is 12-of-14 passing for 127 yards for the game as well.

End first quarter: Cowboys, Sooners tied at 7-7

First quarter ends with Bedlam tied at 7, Cowboys driving

After an OU turnover, OSU moved into the red zone as the first quarter came to an end with Bedlam tied at 7.

OSU had 158 yards in the first quarter and OU had 135, 64 of which came on the Sooners’ long touchdown run early in the game.

— Scott Wright, Staff writer

First quarter: Sooners fumble ball over to Cowboys

This is chaos. OSU linebacker Xavier Benson sacks Dillon Gabriel, who fumbles and recovers. Sooners get a huge pass when two OSU players collide in coverage. Now OU fumbles it to Benson.

—Jacob Unruh, Staff writer

First quarter: Gavin Sawchuk, Sooners tie it up with long TD

After OSU scored on the opening drive, OU wasted to time answering.

Gavin Sawchuk broke off a 64-yard touchdown on the Sooners’ third play from scrimmage to tie the game at 7-7 just more than four minutes in.

The touchdown was Sawchuk’s fourth of the season.

He came into the game with just 23 carries for 127 yards.

Sawchuk's TD run was the Sooners' longest offensive play this season. The previous long was Andrel Anthony's 55-yard reception against Tulsa.

— Ryan Aber, Staff writer

First quarter: Ollie Gordon II puts Oklahoma State on board first

An opening drive that mostly featured the pass ended in a recently familiar way for Oklahoma State. Ollie Gordon II broke into open field and dove for the corner of the end zone for the touchdown to put OSU on top 7-0.

Gordon carried three times for 22 yards on the drive and Alan Bowman was 3-of-5 for 51 yards.

OU pregame: Sooners missing several players

The Sooners will be without starting safety Reggie Pearson for the first half after Pearson was ejected for targeting in the second half of last week's loss to Kansas. OU also will apparently be without a pair of offensive linemen, as Savion Byrd and Jake Taylor did not go through warmups.

—Ryan Aber, Staff writer

OSU pregame: No sign of Jaden Bray in pregame

The Cowboys appear to be without redshirt sophomore receiver Jaden Bray, who will miss his second straight game with an undisclosed injury.

The four primary receivers dressed for pregame warmups were Brennan Presley, Rashod Owens, Blaine Green and Leon Johnson III.

The history might be too recent to be termed a throwback, but OSU is at least leaning on a bit of superstition with its uniform.

The Cowboys came out in the same uniform combination it wore two years ago in its last Bedlam victory, with black helmets, black jerseys and orange pants. The helmet included the script Cowboys logo, which has become a fan favorite since its debut two years ago.

OU injuries: Danny Stutsman a game-time decision

OU linebacker Danny Stutsman participated in warmups prior to a road game against OSU at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Stutsman suffered an ankle sprain during the second quarter of a 38-33 loss to Kansas last week. OU head coach Brent Venables said Tuesday that Stutsman is expected to be a game-time decision for Bedlam.

The Sooners could certainly use Stutsman's production in the rivalry matchup. The junior boasts team-highs of 73 tackles and 11.5 tackles for loss this season.

Stutsman has appeared in 29 straight games for OU. The last game he missed was against Kansas State on Oct. 2, 2021.

Junior running back Tawee Walker also warmed up for the Sooners. He exited the fourth quarter of the Kansas game with an ankle injury of his own.

OSU injuries: Blaine Green, Jason Brooks Jr. expected back

Oklahoma State will have some extra bodies at receiver, but the actual number is uncertain.

Redshirt sophomore Blaine Green is set to return after missing last week’s game, but redshirt sophomore Jaden Bray remains questionable, based on the report from OSU radio voice Dave Hunziker during the pregame show.

Additionally, left guard Jason Brooks Jr. is expected to return after missing the Cincinnati game a week ago, but his replacement, Cole Birmingham could remain in the starting lineup, Hunziker said.
