The Oregon women’s basketball team kept pace with No. 13 Baylor for a bit but couldn’t overcome a disadvantage on the boards and in the turnover column in a 71-51 loss Sunday at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.

The Ducks (4-3) dropped their second straight on the road after a loss to Portland on Thursday, were outrebounded 45-28, and committed 20 turnovers in the loss. On the offensive glass alone, Oregon was outrebounded 19-4.

“We got to take care of the ball and we’ve got to take care of the boards,” Oregon coach Kelly Graves said on postgame radio. “Those are two areas that we didn’t do tonight, and it hurts us. They made us pay for both.”

That said, Oregon held the Bears’ normally prolific offense to under 40% shooting from the field, and just 6-for-24 from 3-point range. Phillipina Kyei collected another double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Grace VanSlooten (14 points) and Chance Gray (10 points) also scored in double figures.

“We did some good things,” Graves said. “I’m going away far more encouraged than I was in the first game of this road trip. We showed tonight that if we can stick together and execute, we can play.”

The Ducks will look to get back into the win column at Matthew Knight Arena Friday against Idaho.
