Oregon football live updates: No. 15 Ducks take on Portland State at Autzen Stadium

The season starts Saturday for the No. 15 Oregon Ducks football team as they take on the Portland State Vikings at noon at Autzen Stadium.

This will be the third time the Ducks and Vikings have played in recent history. The last was a 62-14 Oregon win at Autzen Stadium in 2018 when the Ducks totaled 562 yards.

“Guys are prepped, guys are excited and ready to get to work,” coach Dan Lanning said this week.

Oregon football vs. Portland State game day analysis and notes

10:30 a.m.: Kickoff time is set

Kickoff for the Oregon football game vs. Portland State is at 12:07 p.m. at Autzen Stadium.

11:20 a.m.: Ducks take the field

Starting center Jackson Powers-Johnson and defensive lineman Keyon Ware-Hudson, after being limited in fall camp, were fully dressed and warmed up with the team. Freshman Teitum Tuioti, who was absent during most of the last two weeks of fall camp during media sessions, was dressed with a knee brace on his left knee. Offensive lineman Nishad Strother, linebacker Jestin Jacobs, and tight end Casey Kelly were not seen warming up.

12:07 p.m.: Kickoff

Portland State won the coin toss and opted to receive. Oregon's captains were Bo Nix, Bucky Irving, Casey Rogers, and Jeffrey Bassa. Temperature was 76 degrees at kickoff with mostly sunny conditions. =

12:14 p.m.: Oregon goes up 8-0

The Ducks strike first on a 13-yard pass from Bo Nix to Troy Franklin, capping a seven-play, 66-yard opening drive for Oregon. Tight end Terrance Ferguson scored the two-point conversion on a direct snap that he ran into the end zone.

12:25 p.m.: Portland State strikes back

The Vikings moved down the field with relative ease and scored on a 9-yard TD pass from Dante Chachere to Chance Miller to cut their deficit to 8-7 with 7:01 to play in the first quarter. Portland State's drive was eight plays and went 75 yards and included plays of 20 and 22 yards.

12:32 p.m.: Bucky breaks free for TD

Running back Bucky Irving puts the Ducks up 15-7 with a 52-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Irving broke some second-level tackles and then was home free for his first score of the season.

First-quarter update: Ducks lead 22-7

What happened: Quarterback Bo Nix threw a pair of TD passes to Troy Franklin as the Ducks built a 22-7 lead.

The big play: Running back Bucky Irving scored on a 52-yard run to put the Ducks up 15-7.

Momentum swing: Troy Franklin’s second TD reception of the game put the Ducks up 22-7 with 2:14 to play in the quarter, their first two-score lead of the game.

Beyond the boxscore: Bo Nix completed a pass to brother Tez Johnson, their first in-game connection since their high school days in Alabama.

1:01 p.m.: James puts Ducks up 29-7 in second quarter

Running back Jordan James scored on a 9-yard run at the 11:11 mark of the second quarter. James had also runs of 9 and a career-high 36 yards on the drive, which began after a fourth-down stop by the Ducks defense at their own 40.

1:21 p.m.: Big-play Bucky strikes again

Running back Bucky Irving rushed untouched for a 56-yard TD on a fourth-and-1 play to put Oregon up 43-7 with 5:56 to play in the first half. Irving also rushed for a 52-yard TD earlier in the game and now has 112 yards on four carries.

Second quarter update: Oregon takes a 50-7 lead into halftime

What happened: Running back Jordan James rushed for three TDs and the Ducks scored on all seven of their drives in the first half to lead 50-7 at halftime.

The big play: Linebacker Bryce Boettcher recovered a fumbled kickoff at the Vikings’ 13-yard line and four plays later the Ducks scored on a short run by James.

Momentum swing: James scored two of his rushing touchdowns in a span of 29 seconds early in the quarter as the Ducks built a 36-7 lead with 10:42 to play in the half.

Beyond the boxscore: There were no penalties against either team in the first half.

2 p.m.: Opening drive TD for Ducks to start second half

Quarterback Bo Nix returned to start the second half and led Oregon on a three-play, 75-yard scoring drive that ended with a 10-yard TD pass to Gary Bryant Jr., as Oregon extended its lead to 57-7.

2:10 p.m.: QB Thompson leads scoring drive

Back-up QB Ty Thompson took over for Bo Nix and led the offense on a six-play, 78-yard drive that ended with a 21-yard scoring pass to Gary Bryant Jr., as the Ducks went up 64-7 with 9:56 to play in the third quarter. Thompson was 3-for-3 for 50 yards on the drive and also had a 12-yard run.

Third quarter update: Oregon's lead grows to 67-7

What happened: Ducks outscored the Vikings 17-0 to take a 67-7 lead into the fourth quarter.

The big play: Back-up quarterback Ty Thompson threw a 21-yard TD pass to Gary Bryant Jr., to put Oregon up 64-7.

Momentum swing: Quarterback Bo Nix started the half at quarterback and led the Ducks on a three-play, 75-yard scoring drive that took just 51 seconds.

Beyond the boxscore: Thompson’s touchdown pass was his first since 2021.

Fourth quarter update: Ducks dominate in 81-7 victory

What happened: The Ducks finished off an 81-7 victory.

The big play: Freshman running back Jayden Limar scored the final points a 17-yard run up the middle with 2:04 to play.

Momentum swing: The Ducks defense forced punts on seven straight Portland State possessions, including two in the fourth quarter.

Beyond the boxscore: The 81 points scored by Oregon broke the program’s modern scoring record of 77 points recorded in a 2019 win against Nevada.
