One UNC basketball player projected as 2024 NBA draft lottery pick

For the second-straight year, the North Carolina Tar Heels didn’t have a single player drafted in the NBA draft. It’s the first time that has happened since 2002-04 and a trend that the program does not like seeing.

But as we flip the page and turn our attention to the 2023-24 college basketball season, one player is currently being mocked as a lottery pick early on.

Rickey O’Donnell of SB Nation put out his very early 2024 NBA draft mock, giving the top 30 players for next year’s cycle. Checking in at No. 14 as the last lottery pick is freshman point guard Elliot Cadeau.

The talented guard reclassified to the 2023 class from 2024 to get an early start on his college career. He’s expected to come in and make an impact right away as he’s one of the top players in either class. Cadeau has the potential to be the next great pure UNC point guard and if he does that, he should see his stock rise throughout the year.

More importantly, it would get UNC back in the NBA draft at a lottery spot for the first time since 2019 when Coby White and Cam Johnson were drafted in the lottery.
