Oklahoma high school baseball: Cashion, Oktaha advance to Class 2A state championship game

The Class 2A Oklahoma high school baseball state semifinals continued Friday at Shawnee High School.

Oktaha 10, Preston 3

Oktaha scored all of its runs in the first three innings and held on to defeat Preston 10-3, advancing to the state championship game for the second time in three years.

Despite going to the state title game five times in program history, the Tigers (31-3) have yet to win any hardware.

Senior pitcher Kipton Christian earned the win for Oktaha after pitching five innings, striking out nine batters on 118 pitches. His prowess extended to the plate, as he led the team with three hits and three RBIs.

Despite the loss, Preston (26-4) made a valiant effort in its at-bats. Junior Jayden Herring went  3-for-3 at the plate and led the Pirates with two RBIs.

Oktaha will enter the state championship in Shawnee riding an 11-game win streak. They’ve outscored opponents by over eight runs per game in that span.

Cashion 2, Dale 1

Cashion will now have a chance to win its first state championship on Saturday after defeating Dale 2-1 in Friday's semifinal.

The Wildcats (32-5) took advantage of the electric mound presence of senior Chance Acord en route to its 10th consecutive victory. He earned the win after allowing three hits through six innings while striking out eight batters.

Acord also made game-changing plays as a batter, hitting an RBI single to put Cashion up by one run at the top of the first inning.

Senior Casen Richardson led Dale (27-5), going 2-for-3 at the plate. His late RBI single put the Pirates on the board in the seventh inning.

The stage is set for a thrilling rematch of last year's Class 2A state quarterfinals as Cashion prepares to face off against Oktaha in the state championship game at Shawnee High School. Cashion emerged victorious in the previous encounter with a score of 4-1.
