Ohio State softball falls in heartbreaker to Minnesota at Big Ten Tournament

The Ohio State softball team played one whale of a game against a very good Minnesota team, but ultimately fell 3-2 in extra innings to the No. 3 seed at the Big Ten Tournament Thursday.

The Golden Gophers got out to the early lead when it scored in the bottom of the first inning. It looked like it would be the start of an expected offensive explosion, but things got quiet from there. In fact, neither team was able to score again until the fifth inning when OSU shocked the Gophers with one swing of the bat. Kaitlyn Farley connected on a 1-1 pitch with one out and a runner on for a two-run bomb to give Ohio State a 2-1 lead.

Suddenly, it looked like the Buckeyes might pull off a big upset.

However, Minnesota didn’t finish the season as arguably the hottest team in the Big Ten for no reason. The Gophers were able to scratch out one run in the bottom of the fifth inning which ultimately resulted in the game going to extra innings.

And from there, Minnesota was able to win it in the bottom of the tenth inning for a 3-2 win and advance and send OSU home where it’ll now wait to see its NCAA fate.
