Ohio State makes huge climb in LEARFIELD Director’s Cup standings

The Ohio State athletic program made a huge move up the LEARFIELD Director’s Cup standings after the winter sports season.

The Buckeye program now sits in third place overall, moving up a whopping 35 spots after eight OSU sports tallied a total of 537.50 points in the winter, the most by any school in the country.

Setting the bar was the women’s ice hockey team that took home the national championship. Three other teams finished in the top ten including women’s swimming and diving, men’s swimming and diving, and fencing.

Also scoring points towards the total for the winter were men’s and women’s basketball, women’s indoor track and field, and wrestling. That was added to teams that contributed points through the fall season including football, women’s volleyball, and women’s soccer.

The new totals mean Ohio State trails just Michigan (761 points) and Notre Dame (754) in the standings. Rounding out the top five are Stanford (690.50) and Texas (679.50).

And, in case you’re wondering, the LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup rankings that include the spring sports will be announced June 16 with the final rankings set to be released either July 1 or July 5 after the conclusion of the College World Series.
