Ohio State baseball sweeps two games against UNC Greensboro

It has been a difficult season for the Ohio State baseball team. Things started out well in the nonconference part of the schedule, but once things moved to Big Ten play, the Buckeyes haven’t been able to consistently put anything together.

That wasn’t the case on Saturday however, because OSU found a way to sweep a doubleheader against UNC Greensboro to extend its winning streak to five games.

In the first game, Ohio State pitcher Gavin Bruni set the tone, striking out seven and only allowing one run and just five hits in six innings of work. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes’ offense got a lead early and didn’t look back, plating six runs total led by Henry Kaczmar’s two runs and three RBIs en route to a 6-1 victory.

Game 2 only went seven innings because of the doubleheader, but the pitching was once again outstanding for Ohio State in a 5-1 win. Jonah Jenkins went six innings and allowed just one run on five hits while striking out four. Offensively for OSU, Michell Okuley homered, his team-leading eighth of the season, while Nick Erwin and Trey Lipsey had two hits a piece, and Hank Thomas registered two RBIs.

With the two wins, Ohio State improved to 27-25 but sits just 6-15 in the conference. The Buckeyes will wrap up their series against UNC Greensboro on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET at Bill Davis Stadium.
