- The New York Knicks are trying to elevate themselves to the upper echelon of the Eastern Conference, and believe they have done so with the acquisition of OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors. He's a player who can go up against Jayson Tatum, and Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jimmy Butler, and all of the elite scorers that the Eastern Conference has to offer in a seven game playoff series.

Giving up Immanuel Quickley seemed like an obvious thing because Quickley and the Knicks could not come to terms on a contract extension. And for RJ Barrett, he goes back home, he is a native Canadian so it worked out in that way. Is Anunoby the player who's going to elevate the Knicks? Is he an ideal third star to go with Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle? Will he get the touches? That'll be for Tom Thibodeau to figure itself out.

And for the rest of the Eastern Conference, it also means that the Toronto Raptors are open for business. I would not be surprised if you hear names like Pascal Siakam being more used in the trade market in the coming days. The trade market could just be opening up overall for the NBA, January 15 is around the corner as that is the first day that contracts can be aggregated used together for teams, December 15 was another big day. So it could be the start of trade season all the way around for the NBA as we dawn in the year.
