NY Yankees, Mariners announce lineups for Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium
The Yankees (33-17, first in AL East) look to steer clear of their first three game losing streak when they continue their series with the Mariners (27-22, first in AL West) tonight at Yankee Stadium.
New York's dropped the first two games of this series. Gleyber Torres had a three-run home run in the seventh inning to bring it to a one-run game but couldn't capitalize over the final two innings of play in last night's 6-3 defeat.
In the series opener, the Bronx Bombers couldn't contain a 4-1 lead in the ninth as closer Clay Holmes blew his first save of the season in a 5-4 loss on Monday night.
Going for the Yankees tonight will be Nestor Cortes. The 29-year-old left-hander went seven strong innings his last time out, allowing only five hits, one unearned run and six strikeouts en route to his second victory of the season.
After a solid five starts in April, Mariners' starter Bryce Miller has taken a small step back this month. In three outings, Miller has surrendered 17 hits, 10 earned runs and sports a 5.19 ERA in May.
Following this series, these two American League contenders will meet again in mid-September in Seattle for a three-game set at T-Mobile Park.
