North Penn's first female football player makes school's list of top athletes of the 2000s

Our Mount Rushmore series of the top high school athletes in the Courier Times/Intelligencer area from 2000 to present continues with our look at the top female performers from North Penn.

Remember, what the athletes accomplished athletically while in high school carried more weight than what they did after high school.

Take a look (in alphabetical order):

Kelly Macnamara, 2018 graduate

The first female to play football at North Penn, she was a three-year starter at placekicker. She was also a two-year starter in lacrosse and a track and field letter winner.

She connected on a career-long 42-yard field goal as a junior and also earned national attention that season when a video of her crunching tackle on a Central Bucks East kick returner went viral. She played college lacrosse at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Julia Shearer, 2023 graduate

A two-time Pennsylvania Softball Player of the Year, she was stalwart on two PIAA championship teams as a sophomore and senior.

In her senior season, she was 28-0 as a pitcher with 23 shutouts and had a remarkable 0.21 earned run average. She struck out 355 batters in 166 innings. Offensively, she hit over .600 with 11 home runs. She will play her college softball at the University of Maryland.

Lindsay Sock, 2003 graduate

She earned seven varsity letters, four coming basketball and three in softball. She was a three-time team MVP in basketball and two-time team MVP in softball.

She finished with 1,015 career points in basketball and had a run of 18 straight games with a double-double in her senior season. She played college basketball at Holy Family University.

Mady Volpe, 2021 graduate

The Pennsylvania Softball Player of the Year as a senior, she pitched the Knights to a PIAA title that season, finishing with 18 shutouts.

A four-year starter in softball and three-time first-team all-state selection, she struck out 335 batters as a senior. She is currently playing college softball at Coastal Carolina University.
