Hendrickson High School's Tatyanna Bailey was honored as the Courage Award recipient during the 2023 Austin Area High School Sports Awards show, presented by Thomas J. Henry Law. The show was held at The Long Center: Dell Hall. Featured speaker for the event was former University of Texas and NFL running back Jamaal Charles.

The show is produced in partnership with Texas Children's Hospital-North Austin Campus.

The Courage Award was sponsored by Thomas J. Henry Law. This award honors greatness and strength that goes above and beyond the fields and courts.

From the outside looking in, the Hendrickson girls basketball game against Bastrop in January was a normal game. But to those who knew, it was nothing but normal. Neither were Bailey's 12 points. Just six weeks before that game, Bailey underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor. Everyone around her thought it was too soon for her return. But for Bailey, she wasn't letting anything keep her off the court.

The Austin Area High School Sports Awards show is part of the USA Today High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country.
