No Big 12 players were selected in the first round of 2022 NFL draft
The first round of the 2022 NFL draft took place on Thursday evening.
It was full of excitement, including a slew of wide receivers drafted, two blockbuster trades including elite wide receivers, and several teams moving up or down in the first round.
What it didn’t include, however, was any players from the Big 12 conference. This now marks the second year in a row that no player from the Big 12 was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft.
The last time a Big 12 member was taken off the board in the first round was the 2020 NFL draft, where CeeDee Lamb (Oklahoma), Jalen Reagor (TCU), Kenneth Murray (Oklahoma), Jordyn Brooks (Texas Tech), and Jeff Gladney (TCU) were selected.
The SEC led all conferences in first round picks once again, as 12 former players were selected on Thursday. This included the No. 1 overall draft pick in Georgia’s Travon Walker. The Big Ten had the second most players drafted in the first round with seven.
With Georgia’s five first round draft selections on their own, they had more than the entire ACC (4), Pac-12 (4), and Big 12 (0) alone.
Iowa State running back Breece Hall is widely expected to be the first Big 12 player selected in the 2022 NFL draft on Friday night. Baylor’s Jalen Pitre and Oklahoma’s Nik Bonitto and Periion Winfrey could also hear their names called on Day 2.
