No. 7 LSU women's basketball wins 11th straight in rout of Northwestern State

BATON ROUGE – LSU women's basketball opened the game on a 13-0 run and for Northwestern State, the only hope it was that it wouldn't suffer the same fate as McNeese State inside Pete Maravich Assembly Center Tuesday night.

Kim Mulkey's squad didn't put up the points it did against the Cowgirls as it opened the game pretty cold from the floor, shooting just 34% in the first half. But the No. 7-ranked Tigers routed Northwestern State nonetheless, 81-36, Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers (11-1) have now won 11 straight games and have two nonconference games remaining before Southeastern Conference play gets started against Missouri Jan. 4.

Angel Reese has good day attacking offensive glass for LSU women's basketball

Her performance against the Demons is the one this season that has closely resembled how she attacked the offensive board in her Most Outstanding Player campaign last year.

Reese had 6 offensive rebounds, turning those into 8 points.

Before Reese gets to head home to Baltimore with her teammates for a game at Coppin State Wednesday, she put up her fourth straight double-double with 25 points and 14 boards.

Kim Mulkey navigates early foul trouble with Flau'jae Johnson, Aneesah Morrow

Perhaps part of LSU's early struggles getting an offensive rhythm was that both stars Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow spent extended minutes on the bench due to fouls.

Freshmen Janae Kent, Angelica Velez as well as backup forward Amani Bartlett got the most minutes they've seen in the first half all season. The moving parts and rotating for Mulkey led to some lineups she hasn't seen much of this season, including a couple of minutes in the second where all four freshmen were playing together plus Bartlett.

Outside MiKaylah Williams, LSU's perimeter shooting shaky

Seems like if freshman sharpshooter MiKaylah Williams isn't hitting from deep, the Tigers aren't going to get much production from the perimeter. Williams missed her first four 3-point attempts before beating the buzzer in the third quarter with one. She finished the game 2-for-6 from the arc and 14 total points.

Through 12 games, other LSU players besides Williams are hitting just 19.5% of its 3's.

Against the Demons, the Tigers went 1-for-12 behind the arc, it's worst perimeter shooting performance on the season.
