No. 2 Sioux Falls Jefferson sweeps in Class AA showdown against No. 4 Arrows

SIOUX FALLS — Second-rated Class AA Sioux Falls Jefferson turned a showdown with fourth-rated Watertown into a one-sided affair in high school volleyball on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers improved to 18-1 with a 25-14, 25-26 and 25-15 win over the Arrows (17-5).

"We started out flat and never could get into rhythm for the rest of the match," said Watertown head coach Rosemary Bellum. "We tried to focus on aggressive serving, but only ended the night with three aces. On the positive side, we ended with eight blocks."

Isabel Simmons and Emory Brosnahan each produced eight kills and Lizzy Spah seven for Jefferson, which also got 25 assists from Presly Pastian, 17 digs from Cora Hokenstad, 12 digs from Averi Schmit, 10 digs from Ella Kvernmo, two solo blocks and five aces from Brosnahan and one solo and three block assists from Mya Hejl.

Hannah Herzog and Emery Thury each recorded six kills and Emily Tisher five for the Arrows. Miranda Falconer had 12 good serves with two aces and 20 digs, Thury eight good serves and Kynslee Johnson five good serves.

Paige McAreavey added seven digs, Addi Johnston and Natalie Pearson five digs apiece, Cater Jurrens one solo and four block assists, Avery Munger five block assists and Herzog three block assists.

The Arrows compete Friday and Saturday in the East-West Classic at Yankton. Watertown faces Sturgis at 4 p.m. and Spearfish at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Rapid City Stevens at 9 a.m., Douglas at 10:30 a.m. and Rapid City Central at noon on Saturday.

"We have to regroup in the next two days and focus on winning every match against our five West River opponents," said Bellum.

Great Plains Lutheran 3, Britton-Hecla 0

WATERTOWN — Host Great Plains Lutheran scored five straight points to win the opening set 25-22 and cruised to 25-10 wins in the final two sets of the Eastern Coteau Conference match.

The two teams were tied at 20-20 in the opening set before the Braves (8-12) grabbed the lead with two points. The Panthers (15-11) answered with their run and dominated the rest of the match.

Kaitlyn Rawerts went 22-22 serving with five aces, nine digs and 15 assists and Jolie Lien 16-16 serving with three aces.

Other key contributors for GPL included Olivia Holmen, 11 kills and six block assists; Kate Holmen, nine block assists; Madeline Prahl, 15 assists; Abby Kjenstad seven kills and 12 digs; Kaylee Carlson five kills and three block assists; and Grace Powers eight digs.

Aberdeen Central 3, Mitchell 0

ABERDEEN — Fifth-rated Class AA Aberdeen Central (13-7) won the Eastern South Dakota Conference match 25-20, 25-22 and 25-17.

Ayrlie Waldo went 19-19 serving with two aces, 32 assists and nine digs. Taryn Nieman added two aces and seven kills, Madison Miller two aces, Kenadi Withers 10 kills and one solo and two block assists, Lauryn Burckhard nine kills, Ashley Wangler six kills, Sawyer Bahr 13 digs and Emma Dohrer nine digs.

Aberdeen Christian 3, Ipswich 0

ABERDEEN — Alexis Isakson recorded her 1,000th career dig in the Knights' 25-20, 25-22 and 25-17 Lake Region Conference win.

Isakson finished with two aces and 26 digs, Ari Johnson two aces and 11 kills, Jolie Fogarty 10 assists, Chloe Bosma, seven kills, Sawyer Schwan 11 assists and Payton Skarin 13 digs.

Aberdeen Roncalli 3, Milbank 1

MILBANK — Ava Hanson tallied 13 kills, three aces and two block assists to help Roncalli take the Northeast Conference match 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20.

The Cavs (17-5 overall and 8-0 in the NEC) also got three aces and 22 assists from Faith Danielson, 12 kills from Jaidyn Feickert, 34 digs from Camryn Bain, 18 digs from McKenna O'Keefe and two block assists from Maddie Huber.

Rachel Schulte tallied 18 kills, 15 assists and 27 digs for Milbank (18-11, 6-2). Ella Sandvig was 19-19 serving with 33 digs and Shaylee Schuchard 15-16 serving with two block assists. Skyler Skoog contributed 15 kills, Addisyn Krause 19 assists and Claire Snaza one solo and two block assists.

Estelline-Hendricks 3, Iroquois-Lake Preston 0

HENDRICKS, Minn. — Estelline-Hendricks (23-5) stayed unbeaten in the Dakota Conference (7-0) with a 25-13, 25-13 and 25-23 victory.

Sadie Johnson recorded 26 assists and 20 digs, Presly Bury five assists and 18 digs, Kenzy Beare 15 kills and three blocks, Allie Duenwald four kills and Brooke Johnson two aces, five kills and 10 digs for the Redhawks.

Elena Campagnolo (two aces, seven kills and 19 digs), Rebecca Bich (20 assists and two block assists), Faith Streffensen (six kills), Hadlee Holt (two solo blocks and 16 digs) and Adison Moore (16 digs) led the way for the Sharks, who fell to 12-14.

Clark-Willow Lake 3, Tiospa Zina 0

AGENCY VILLAGE — Clark-Willow Lake (8-13) won the Northeast Conference match 25-13, 25-15 and 25-15 over the Wambdi (7-17).

The Cyclones were led by Teyha Vig with three aces, Avery Lee two aces and three digs, Sarah Thonvold three kills, Kate Larson two kills and Zoe Nichols five assists.

Castlewood 3, De Smet 0

De SMET — Presley Knecht tallied 16 kills and 10 digs to lead the Warriors (16-8) to a 25-15, 25-12 and 25-14 Lake Central Conference win.

Gracie Haug added 25 assists, Emerson Carter nine kills and two blocks, Kylie Wittnebel 12 digs, Karli Akin eight digs and Cassidy Kirwan and Kelly Goens three kills apiece.

The Bulldogs (4-22) were led by Megan Dylla with eight assists and 10 digs, Alyssa Asleson five assists, Hazel Luethmers six kills and two blocks, Ivey Schoenfelder four kills, Brooke Jennings three kills and nine digs and Harper Anderson nine digs.

CLEAR LAKE — The Falcons (17-10) recorded a 27-25, 25-16 and 25-10 non-conference victory by getting 17 kills, 14 digs and three blocks from Caylin Kelly.

Taylor Watson added 10 kills and 11 digs, Kate Hulscher five kills, Ashlyn Vavruska 35 assists and 14 digs and Roean Raymer three blocks. Kaylee Varuska went 13-15 serving and Ashlyn Vavruska 10-12.

Deuel (7-13) got five kills and 12 assists from Josie Andersen, two aces and four assists from Sara Jo Kreger, six kills and 10 digs from Annika Kriz, 15 digs from Ella Kerkvliet and 11 digs from Kaitlyn Gubrud.

Arlington 3, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 0

RAMONA — Addie Steffensen's three aces, nine kills and 13 digs lifted the Cardinals to a 25-18, 25-13 and 25-17 Dakota Valley Conference win.

Issie Steffensen tallied 20 assists, Harley Johnson nine kills and Sony Johnson 13 digs for Arlington (11-19).

ORR (10-15) received 14 assists and seven digs from Emily Matson, six assists from Rylan Pearson, nine kills and 11 digs from Julia Trygstad, seven digs from Bella Malisch and five kills from Brookelyn Riedel.

Colman-Egan 3, Deubrook Area 0

COLMAN — The fourth-rated Class B Hawks won the Dakota Valley Conference match 25-21, 25-17 and 25-12 to improve to 24-4 overall and 7-1 in the DVC.

Leaders for Colman-Egan included Daniela Lee, four kills and 17 digs; Lanie Mousel, 18 assists; Anna Zwart, 15 kills; Presley Luze, 14 digs and Kaylee Voelker, 20 assists.

Zoey Molengraaf had seven kills and five block assists, Madalyn Bauman seven assists, Delaney Pedersen eight digs, Carly Engelstad seven digs and Matte Bauman eight assists, four block assists and seven digs for Deubrook Area (14-15 and 4-5).

Chester Area 3, Sioux Valley 0

VOLGA — The second-rated Class B Flyers won for the 25th time in 27 tries by taking the match 25-12, 25-17 and 25-12 over the Cossacks (14-13).

Jacy Wolf notched eight kills, eight aces and seven digs; Emmerson Eppard seven kills; Katelyn Huntimer seven kills; Lily VanHal six kills and 25 assists; Addison Bates seven kills; and Emerson Larson five aces and 16 digs for Chester Area.

Sioux Valley leaders were Machaela Gerasch (nine assists), Elise Lemme (seven digs), Adison Renkly (nine kills and eight digs), Keyra Kruse (five kills) and Sunny Hesby (eight assists).

Hitchcock-Tulare 3, Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 0

HITCHCOCK — Katelyn Schroeder produced 15 kills, 19 digs and two block assists to lead the Patriots (20-7) to the 25-12, 25-21 and 25-12 281 Conference victory.

Ella Johnson added 10 kills and four aces, Lila Johnson 30 assists, Gracyn Bixler six assists and Cambree Hoekman 12 digs for Hitchcock-Tulare.

Kenna Ochsner notched seven kills, two blocks and 10 digs for SCW. Liz Boschee added five kills and two blocks, Kenzie Schley 14 assists and Kali Hofer 10 digs.

Wolsey-Wessington 3, Sunshine Bible Academy 0

MILLER — Wolsey-Wessington rolled to a 25-8, 25-13 and 25-15 win by getting 14 assists from Payton Kemnitz and 13 kills from Kailynn Dorris.

Tatum Luce chipped in with two aces, Kendal Uttecht 10 assists and 10 digs, Lainey Uttecht six kills and Samara Clemente two blocks for the Warbirds (25-3).

Abby Hinman made eight assists, Sadie Konechne two aces and four kills, Annalise VanZee two kill and two blocks, Kennedy Keck four digs and Betra Amare three aces, seven assists and four digs for the Crusaders (1-21).

Leola-Frederick Area 3, Waverly-South Shore 0

FREDERICK — Sofia Losure tallied five aces, 15 digs and 11 kills to power the Titans (12-12) to a 25-18, 25-15 and 25-9 win.

Jillian Ellwein and Kathryn Miller each contributed 10 kills, Jocelynn Ellwein 34 assists and two aces and Olivia Morlock 10 digs.

Linton-HMB 3, Mobridge-Pollock 2

MOBRIDGE — Liniton/Hazelton-Moffit-Bradduck (N.D.) outlasted Mobridge-Pollock 17-25, 25-19, 25-12, 16-25, 15-9.

Charley Henderson notched 17 kills, Ryli Thompson 16 kills, Katy Kemnitz 29 assists and Sophia Overland 21 assists for Mobridge-Pollock (24-6).

Groton Area 3, Northwestern 1

GROTON — Groton Area improved to 16-2 with a 29-27, 21-25 25-20 and 28-26 win over third-rated Class B Northwestern (25-7).

Sydney Leicht tallied 10 kills, 38 digs and three aces for the Tigers. Chesney Weber added 17 kills and three aces, Anna Fjeldheim 13 kills, Carly Guthmiller five aces and 29 digs, Liz Fliehs 46 assists and 16 digs and Emma Kutter two solo blocks and one block assist. Guthmiller also was 22-23 serving.

Ella Boekelheide went 29-29 serving with two aces, 2 digs, nine kills and 34 assists for the Wildcats. Tara Blachford was 22-2 serving with two aces and 21 digs; Ashley Haven two aces, 22 kills and four block assists; Nicolette Nickeson seven kills, Payton Grandpre 22 digs and Ana Ratigan five block assists.

Webster Area 3, Langford Area 0

WEBSTER — Webster Area (10-14) won the non-conference match 25-17, 25-13 and 28-26.

Leading the way for the Bearcats were Payton Snell, 18-18 serving with four aces; Baylie Somsen, 15-16 serving with three aces, 18 assists and 12 digs; Gracie Cadwell, 14-16 serving with two aces, 12 kills and 17 digs; Katie Braun, seven assists; and Mallory Steiner, nine kills and one solo and one block assist.
