Purdue basketball is the No. 1 team in the nation entering 2024 and will face off with Big Ten Conference opponent Maryland for its first game of the new year.

The Boilermakers (12-1) cruised to an 80-53 win over Eastern Kentucky with 12 different players scoring points. Fletcher Loyer led the way with 14 points. Zach Edey was second on the team with 13 points and also had 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Purdue team leaders: Edey (23.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.4 blocked shots); Braden Smith (12.8 points, 48% on 3-pointers, 5.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1.9 steals); Fletcher Loyer (11.5 points, 39% on 3s).

The Terrapins (9-4) have won five in a row, most recently to Coppin State. Jahmir Young leads Maryland (19.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists), with help from Julian Reese (14.3 points, 9.7 rebounds).
