Nick Chubb knee: Former Georgia RB suffers gruesome injury in Browns' game vs. Steelers

Former Georgia star Nick Chubb left the Cleveland Browns’ "Monday Night Football" matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers with 14:14 remaining in the second quarter after suffering a knee injury.

The injury occurred on a first-and-goal run when Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick collided with Chubb’s left knee as the running back was being brought down by linebacker Cole Holcomb.

ABC's broadcast did not show a replay of the tackle. As play-by-play commentator Joe Buck said, it was “not to be seen.” The crowd at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium could be heard gasping as the replay of the run and the injury was shown on the stadium’s jumbotron.

“It’s as bad as you can imagine,” ESPN analyst Troy Aikman said.

Chubb was taken off the field on a cart while opposing fans chanted his last name.

In his sixth season in the NFL, Chubb has established himself as one of the best running backs in the sport. Last season, he started all 17 of Cleveland’s games and ran for 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Chubb has rushed for at least 1,000 yards, eight touchdowns and five yards per carry in each of the past four seasons.

He rushed for 106 yards in the Browns’ season-opening win against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed in his postgame news conference that Chubb is expected to be out for the remainder of the season with a "significant" knee injury, per multiple reports. He did not provide specific details as to Chubb's injury.

It's unfortunately not the first time Chubb's left knee has been severely injured.

While a sophomore at Georgia in 2015, he dislocated his knee and tore his MCL, PCL and LCL in his left knee in a 38-31 loss at Tennessee on Oct. 10.

Chubb came back strong the following season, appearing in all 13 of the Bulldogs' games and rushing for 1,130 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging five yards per carry.
