(Adds two late games) Nov 27 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Wednesday's National Hockey League games. - - - Penguins 6, Maple Leafs 5 (shootout) Pittsburgh center Evgeni Malkin tallied twice in regulation and also converted the final shootout goal as the Penguins (15-9-1) overcame an early 4-1 deficit to rally past the Toronto Maple Leafs. James van Riemsdyk scored twice and Phil Kessel netted his 13th goal for Toronto (14-9-2), who were out-shot 19-0 in the third period and overtime on the way to a third defeat in four games. - - - Coyotes 3, Wild 1 The Phoenix Coyotes got two goals from right winger Radim Vrbata and another from left winger Mikkel Boedker to beat the injury-plagued Minnesota Wild. Phoenix (15-6-4) snapped a three-game winless streak and handed the Wild (15-7-4) just their second home loss in regulation this season. Minnesota played without leading scorer Zach Parise (foot contusion) and also lost second-line center Mikael Granlund early in the first period after a collision. - - - Blues 4, Avalanche 1 David Backes scored a goal and an assist, goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped 25 shots and the St. Louis Blues beat the Colorado Avalanche for their fifth straight win. Centers Alexander Steen and Jaden Schwartz also scored and Derek Roy had two assists for the Blues (18-3-3). Left winger Patrick Bordeleau scored for Colorado (17-6-0), who lost for the first time in four games. - - - Red Wings 6, Bruins 1 Defenseman Niklas Kronwall, captain Henrik Zetterberg and winger Tomas Tatar each scored a goal and an assist in the Detroit Red Wings' victory over the Boston Bruins. Right winger Jarome Iginla scored for Boston (16-7-2), but the Red Wings (12-7-7) scored three goals in less than four minutes in the second period. - - - Lightning 4, Flyers 2 The Tampa Bay Lightning improved one of the NHL's best home records, moving to 10-2-0, by holding on to beat the Philadelphia Flyers after taking a shutout into the final two minutes. The Lightning (16-8-1) got a strong night from backup goaltender Anders Lindback, who came in with a 1-5 record but nearly finished with a shutout before giving up two goals in the closing minutes. - - - Canadiens 3, Sabres 1 The Montreal Canadiens earned their fourth consecutive win while dropping the Buffalo Sabres to a fifth straight loss. Center Alex Galchenyuk, David Descharnais and Brendan Gallagher scored for Montreal (14-9-2) and Canadiens goaltender Carey Price made 24 saves. Matt Moulson scored for the Sabres (5-20-1). - - - - Senators 6, Capitals 4 In a wild game that featured end-to-end rushes and three lead changes, Senators center Zack Smith provided the game-winner with 2:23 remaining in the third period to take Ottawa past Washington. Bobby Ryan scored twice for the Senators (10-11-4) while the Capitals (12-11-2) lost for the fourth straight time and slipped to third in the Metropolitan Division standings. - - - Jets 3, Islanders 2 The Winnipeg Jets scored three unanswered goals in a little more than five second period minutes and handed the reeling New York Islanders a fourth straight loss. Mark Stuart, Andrew Ladd and Devin Setoguchi all scored for the Jets (12-11-4) while goaltender Al Montoya had 28 saves in his first start in nine days. - - - Hurricanes 4, Devils 3 The Carolina Hurricanes rode a three-goal second period to a victory over the New Jersey Devils. The Hurricanes received goals from forwards Tuomo Ruutu and Patrick Dwyer along with defenseman Ron Hainsey during the middle-period onslaught. Defenseman Justin Faulk scored for the Hurricanes in the first period. - - - Predators 4, Blue Jackets 0 Rookie Marek Mazanec recorded a 19-save shutout - his second perfect outing in eight days - as the Predators blanked the Columbus Blue Jackets. Matt Cullen, Mike Fisher, David Legwand and Nick Spaling scored for the Predators (13-10-2), while left winger Gabriel Bourque and defenseman Ryan Ellis had two assists each. - - - Rangers 5, Panthers 2 The New York Rangers rebounded from an embarrassing loss to defeat the Florida Panthers. New York, which lost 5-0 at Tampa Bay on Monday, scored three goals in the third period and got 31 saves from Henrik Lundqvist. - - - Sharks 3, Kings 2 (shootout) Joe Thornton scored in the eighth round of the shootout as the Sharks outlasted their Pacific Division rivals Los Angeles to win 3-2. Thornton also scored in regulation for the Sharks (16-3-5), who are tied with Anaheim at the top of the division on 37 points, one ahead of the Kings (16-6-4). The Kings lost but extended their points streak to a franchise-tying 11th straight game (7-0-4). - - - Blackhawks 3, Flames 2 Patrick Kane scored the game-winner with 18 seconds remaining as the Blackhawks won a fourth straight game with a 3-2 triumph over the Calgary Flames. Kane tallied twice against the Flames and has collected points in 12 straight games.
