Former Ben Davis High School right tackle Dawand Jones was selected in the fourth round (111th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft on Saturday by the Cleveland Browns. Here's what you should know about him.

How tall is Dawand Jones?

6-8, 374 pounds

Dawand Jones was a basketball Indiana All-Star

Jones has acknowledged that basketball was his first love, and he earned a spot on the squad that played the best players from Kentucky in 2019: “I knew it was my last time getting out there so I wanted to have fun with it,” he said. “The thing I’ll probably miss the most is playing for Ben Davis. It was a joy. We built a brotherhood over there. It was amazing to be able to do what we did.”

Before his final football season at Ben Davis, Jones said he was the verge of choosing college basketball, but his football coaches convinced him to hold off until he could be seen by recruiters on the football field.

“I was getting ready to commit to (Kent State) for basketball at one point,” Jones said. “My coaches told me to wait the season out for football and I said, ‘OK coach, I got you.’”

Is Dawand Jones going to the NFL?

From NFL.com: "Massive right tackle with rare length but limited athleticism that impacts his consistency. Defenders accustomed to winning with power will need to switch up their approach against Jones. His physical traits help cover up some of his athletic deficiencies, while his power can be better unleashed with accurate hand strikes and a run scheme tailored to what he does best. The former high school basketball standout has decent slide quickness in protection but is unable to find his feet when attempting to match inside counters or stall out gaming fronts. Jones is a work in progress with holes that will have to be covered up with scheme help, but he should become a starting right tackle if he maintains the playing weight his team desires."

From Draft Network, which ranks Jones fourth among tackles: "Jones has the makeup of a quality starter at the next level that has plenty of dominant moments but his restrictions could lead to some variance based on matchups."
