Round 1

For the third year in a row, the Falcons had the eighth overall draft pick. They used it this year to grab University of Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

The move came as a surprise to many fans after the Falcons signed now-former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Cousins last month.

Channel 2 Sports Director Zach Klein says team owner Arthur Blank wanted a succession plan to Cousins.

Round 2

The Falcons traded up with the Arizona Cardinals to get the third pick of the second round, the 35th overall.

With that pick, they added Clemson University defensive tackle Ruke Orhorhoro.

Orhorhoro was projected to be drafted in the third round, so the top of the second round is a big jump.

Round 3

Penix isn’t the only Washington Huskie heading to Atlanta.

The Falcons used their third-round pick to add Washington defensive end Bralen Trice to the roster. He’s the 74th overall pick of the draft.

Round 4

The Falcons kicked off the third day of the draft by snatching up University of Oregon defensive tackle Brandon Dorlus as the 109th overall pick.

Round 5

With their fifth pick of the draft, the Falcons grabbed local boy Notre Dame linebacker JD Bertrand with the 143rd overall pick.

Bertrand started for four years at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell and would finish his senior year at Notre Dame as the Irish’s leading tackler. He helped lead the team to three state titles.

Round 6

A few trades throughout the draft earned the Falcons back-to-back picks heading in the sixth round.

With the first of those, pick 186, they drafted University of Alabama running back Jase McClellan.

They followed it up immediately with the 187th overall pick in University of Illinois wide receiver Casey Washington.

The Falcons used their last pick of the draft to keep a UGA boy in Georgia. Defensive tackle Zion Logue was pick 197.
