The 103rd National Football League season got underway on September 8. The season will conclude with the Super Bowl in Glendale, California, on Sunday, Feb. 12, on Fox Sports.

There’s been a sea change in the broadcasting aspect, with new TV partners and broadcaster pairings.

Fox Sports enters its 29th season broadcasting the NFL, primarily the National Football Conference. Gone are lead announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, who have jumped to ESPN’s Monday Night Football. The new lead pair Fox are Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen, 37, the former tight end – however, Fox has already signed quarterback Tom Brady to step into the lead analyst job when he finally decides to retire.

Buck and Aikman have teamed for 20 seasons on Fox and now take their act to ESPN for the valued Monday Night Football franchise (ABC from 1970-2005, ESPN 2006 to present). ESPN will have three of its Monday Night Football games simulcast on ABC (Cowboys-Giants on Sept. 26; Rams-Packers on Dec. 19; Bills-Bengals on Jan. 2).

With the exception of 1994-97, CBS has broadcast the NFL since 1956. Jim Nantz has been the lead play-by-play voice since 2004, paired with former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo since 2017. CBS will primarily air games from the American Football Conference.

NBC Sports has broadcast Sunday Night Football since 2006, the highest-rated TV franchise for decades, with Al Michaels as play-by-play voice. But Michaels has jumped to the new Amazon Prime Video subscription package of Thursday Night Football, with heralded ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit. So NBC has finally completed its promotion of Mike Tirico to lead SNF chair, paired still with Cris Collinsworth. NBC also has a prime-time Thanksgiving telecast and two postseason games, one of which will be called by Michaels, now deemed announcer emeritus.

Amazon Prime will air all remaining NFL Thursday night games at 8:15 p.m.

NFL Network has lost its piece of the Thursday night franchise but has three games being played in London and Munich, a Dec. 17 tripleheader and Christmas Eve game, likely utilizing announcers from Fox and CBS.

In summation:

CBS – Sunday afternoon games at 1 p.m. or 4:05/4:25 p.m.; Thanksgiving afternoon game

Fox – Sunday afternoon games at 1 p.m. or 4:05/4:25 p.m.; Thanksgiving afternoon game

NBC – Sunday evening games at 8:20 p.m.; Thursday evening game on Nov. 24

ESPN – Monday evening games at 8:15 p.m.

Amazon Prime Video – Thursday evening games at 8:15 p.m.

NFL Network – Sunday morning games at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 2, Oct. 9, Nov. 13; a Dec. 7 tripleheader (1 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 8:15 p.m.); a Dec. 24 prime-time game (8:15 p.m.)

NFL Red Zone – The cable channel bounces between live action of all Sunday afternoon games between 1 p.m. and sign-off at 8 p.m.

NFL+ - Subscription service will carry every NFL contest, utilizing the national TV partners.

Once again, flexible scheduling may be employed for Sunday night football games, allowing NBC to televise a more favorable matchup for the prime-time audience. The network may move a Sunday afternoon game to prime time twice between weeks 5-10 and twice more between weeks 11-17. In those instances, the original Sunday night game would be moved to Sunday afternoon in the 1 p.m. or 4:05/4:25 p.m. time slots and assigned to CBS or Fox.

In addition, the NFL may also switch start times and networks up to 12 days in advance twice during weeks 5-10 and any time from weeks 11-18, and on six days notice for week 17.

New York Giants games will be broadcast by WFAN radio (660-AM, 101.9-FM) and some affiliates. Bob Papa and Carl Banks handle the announcing, with Howard Cross on the sidelines. Pregame show hosts include Lance Medow, Jeff Feagles, Paul Tottino and John Schmeelk. Postgame hosts include Papa, Banks, Medow, Feagles and Schmeelk. Spanish-language broadcasts available on 96.3-FM, with Nestor Rosario and Francis Adames.

New York Jets games will be broadcast by ESPN radio (98.9-FM) and some affiliates. Bob Wischusen and Marty Lyons handle the announcing.

Westwood One (WW1) Radio will broadcast Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, Thursday Night Football, Thanksgiving Day games, select international games and NFL postseason contests. A new aspect will allow the WW1 radiocasts to be streamed on WestwoodOneSports.com, radio affiliates’ webstreams, as well as the NFL App. WFAN radio will air the majority of the WW1 broadcasts, though some conflicts with Yankees, Nets and Devils broadcasts may prompt a move to sister station WCBS (880-AM).

Satellite radio provider SiriusXM will carry the WW1 broadcasts on its NFL Radio channel. Regular-season visiting- and home-team broadcasts will also be carried on team-specific online channels and a set of assigned channels per week.
