Nexstar-DirecTV dispute impacting Tennessee Titans fans as NFL preseason begins

Nexstar's dispute with DirecTV will leave some Tennessee Titans fans in Nashville unable to see the Titans' preseason opener against the Chicago Bears through their satellite or streaming packages.

Nexstar Media Inc. and DirecTV have been at an impasse for weeks in trying to negotiate a new distribution agreement. Nexstar stations, including WKRN in Nashville, have been unavailable on DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and AT&T U-Verse since July 2.

WKRN News 2 is the flagship home of Tennessee Titans preseason games in Nashville, so Titans fans with DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and U-Verse will be unable to see Saturday's game. As long as the dispute continues, so will the absence of Titans preseason games through those subscription services. The same goes for Titans fans in Knoxville, where WATE (Channel 6) is owned by Nexstar.

Saturday's game will be streamed on TennesseeTitans.com and on the Titans app locally. Affected fans also can watch the game on TV via DTV antenna over the air, if able.

“We’re hopeful of getting something done before the NFL season starts (in September)," Gary Weitman, Nexstar executive vice president and chief communications officer, told The Commercial Appeal on Wednesday.

The dispute also looms three weeks before Tennessee Vols football's season opener vs. Virginia in Nashville, which will be televised by ABC. Both WKRN and WATE are ABC affiliates
