Watch a caddy propose on the 12th hole of Augusta National

Golfers have figuratively been brought to their knees by Augusta National’s Amen Corner for decades, so it was a little strange to see a man voluntarily kneeling on the 12th tee this week.

Benji Thompson had a good reason, though: He was proposing to his girlfriend Regan Askin in front of the spectacular background of Rae’s Creek, Hogan’s bridge and the 12th green.

It was a big enough moment to sneak a smartphone out on the course:

IM GONNA BE A THOMPSON!!! ???? #heputaringonit #mastersweek #augustanational

There’s gotta be a Fred Couples joke in here somewhere.

Anyway, how did Thompson get access for such a memorable proposal?

Well, Thompson is a professional caddy, having recently been on the bag of Lexi Thompson (no relation) until last year. And it appears that pro golfer (and fellow South Carolinian) Kevin Kisner helped make it happen.

Also witness to the moment: Photographer Philip Andrews, who captured some shots and then later tracked the couple down on Facebook to share the pictures with them.

Just living in a fairytale ????

No words on the details of the wedding, though we’re hoping it’s a ceremony filled with green jackets and azaleas. And plenty of Arnold Palmers and pimento cheese sandwiches, of course.
