Two Realistic Trades That Would Elevate The Raiders Defense

Lately, the Oakland Raiders aren’t active players when in the trade market. Nevertheless, here’s a glance at players General Manager Reggie McKenzie should look into:

Eagles Mychal Kendricks, Position: Linebacker, Age: 26, Salary: $4.85 million in 2017

The once promising and productive Cal product watched his playing time dwindle in 2016. In particular, Kendricks saw time as only a sub-package linebacker. Finishing with 28 tackles, the 6-foot, 240-pounder was a better player in the Philadelphia’s 3-4 scheme. Switching to the 4-3 alignment, Kendricks became an afterthought. Despite his frame, he possesses the athleticism to cover. Due to his leaping ability and receiver speed, Kendricks shadows backs, tight ends and receivers with the same ability. In contrast, his run defense still needs fine tuning. While he makes interior tackles, fighting with guards does not do him any favors.

Pro Football Talk stated the Eagles will look to unload the LB for a mid- to late-round pick. If they don’t find a partner, Kendricks can expect a June 1st release. In turn, the Raiders could sign him without surrendering picks.

Jets Sheldon Richardson, DT, 26, $8.069 million in 2017

Richardson is immensely talented and explosive. At the same time, he seems disgruntled and surly. For example, he’s missed team meetings and practices. For these reasons, Richardson is a regular on the trade block. The Jets made their choice on defensive line, investing in Mo Wilkerson. At 6-3 and 294 pounds, the Missouri product tallied 62 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 15 games in 2016. Teams were only willing to part with a third-round pick before the trade deadline last season. The Jets are holding out for better compensation. Yet, time will ease the demand. If new York truly wants to unload Richardson, the Raiders could steal him for less.
