Rex Ryan to come back as Jets head coach

Jets owner Woody Johnson had an important announcement to make following his team's 20-7 win over the Dolphins.

His coach, Rex Ryan, will come back to lead this team in 2014.

Just a week ago it seemed unlikely Ryan would be back as a report surfaced that he told his players that he expected to be let go. But the Jets did end the year 8-8, which was seen as exceeding expectations by many pundits around the country.

The Jets were forced to start rookie quarterback Geno Smith, who had an up-and-down season behind center, due to Mark Sanchez suffering a season-ending injury during the preseason.

The defense was one of the league's best at defending the run, though the offense has plenty of work to do. For Ryan to be back in 2015, that side of the ball will need to be addressed this offseason, so the Jets can return to the postseason, a place Ryan led them in his first two years as head coach.
