Rays' Price in line to pitch one-game wild-card playoff
The Tampa Bay Rays have been shifting around other pieces of their rotation, but for David Price, they just want him to go out and pitch.
Price will start Tuesday against the Red Sox in Boston on his usual fifth day, and he will do so again Sunday in Chicago against the White Sox. He'll then be lined up for a potential one-game wild-card playoff on Oct. 5.
"I feel good," he said. "It's good to be able to spend those five days like we're used to."
Price's primary goal, of course, is to win and keep the Rays in the pennant race.
But in the process, Price (18-5) could become the first Tampa Bay pitcher to record a 20-win season, which would further his AL Cy Young Award candidacy as well.
"That's not what I'm thinking about," Price said. "I'm thinking about going out and helping us win in Boston, whether it be the same way I did a couple days ago (he worked into the eighth but got no decision) or going out there and actually getting a decision.
"Obviously, 20 would be very cool. But if not, hopefully I can get 19."
