Ohio State reinstates LB Klein
Senior middle linebacker Storm Klein was reinstated by Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.
"As I had indicated previously, if there are changes in the charges against Storm, I would re-evaluate his status," Meyer said in a press release. "The charges that would have violated our core values have been totally dismissed. I have spoken extensively to members of both families and that has prompted me to reassess his situation and allow him back."
Klein accepted a plea deal that reduced a domestic violence charge to misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Going to trial in late September would have effectively ruled out his return this season.
Klein was dismissed from the Ohio State football team in July after he was charged with "violently and purposely" grabbing the mother of his child by the forearms and throwing her into their apartment door. Meyer immediately dismissed Klein from the team July 6 but said he could review Klein's status if charges were dropped.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Klein's attorney said the alleged victim recanted the accusation and said that Klein did not strike or harm her.
The case had been scheduled for trial Sept. 24.
Klein started 10 games last season. He's likely to be a backup at the outset of the season based on the spring performance of sophomore Curtis Grant, a top-10 recruit and one of the stars of Meyer's first spring in Columbus.
